If you're trying to be funny and failing miserably, of course people are gonna call out on you. If the myriad of OMG OVERREACTION, the pantynosebleedexplosion sequences, the aforementioned pigeon mask scene, the cat making boob commentary scene and the girl hiding her bear pet scene were not intended to make you laugh, I honestly can't for the life of me understand what their purpose may be. I've caught some of those little details, and I have no doubts there's an interesting story somewhere beneath that pile of unfunnycomedy and panty shots, but the pile is too deep and I don't have it in me to dig through it

You can certainly be forgiven for thinking Punch Line isn't a comedy considering how unfunny episode 2 was. However, not recognizing that it is trying to be a comedy (among other things) is completely absurd. You really thought that boring "cheermancy" stuff was meant to be s.o.l. drama? Laughing

And "pretty strong character" writing? Laughing Yes, that whole, "waah waah, I suck at necromancy" gong that was hit three billion times was absolutely fascinating characterization. Or how after two full episodes we know that bear hiding girl (and my, wasn't all of that stuff just hilarous!) is a shut-in because something "crappy" happened at school.

Hey, if you are digging this so far, that's cool. But don't get your panties all in a twist just because some of us aren't. It's not like our opinions are coming out of nowhere, despite what you might think.

Episode 2

I can see the complaints of this not quite matching the comedy tone it set out before that it becomes kind of confusing. But I did totally have to look up if spoiler[pigeon masks] were a real thing, and I think they should totally take over where spoiler[horse masks] left off. That was at least worth a laugh. What was not was the other scenes which tried to play off things like misunderstandings. Also the cat, the whole breast thing was kind of annoying, but things like spoiler[cat porn] did the job again.

Actually there are a couple aspects I am interested away from the comedy. The first is the exorcist's insecurities and purity despite her mature look. And the second is the NEET that might have something interesting, I thought that the flashback with her worked, and I am interested in spoiler[what type of bulling she suffered].

Yes, Punch Line has jokes. Whether you find them funny or not is another story, but it has quite a few of them too. Steins;Gate and Gurren Lagann also had a lot of humor at first. I guess they were comedies too? Confused

That's not to say I think Punch Line will be as good as those two, because it's impossible to tell what it's attempting to do so early on.

And yes, mostly pretty strong character writing so far. I say "mostly" because we know very little about the cat or Nosebleed-san, and honestly the cat's starting to get on my nerves a bit, and I say "so far" because, again, only two episodes in. But the personalities of the three tenants and the landlord have all been established so far, and at least one of them have been relatively fleshed out compared to the rest.

For example, Ito is someone who'd rather not go to school and play games. Why? We don't know yet. However, as a result, her father, a politician, fearing what would happen to his reputation should people find out his daughter is a hikikomori (though saying she's a hikikomori isn't 100% accurate, as it's noted she does go out occasionally), disowns her. While this does leave her bitter, Ito is still capable of being relatively friendly, as seen with her interactions with Nosebleed-san in the flashback, choosing to open up to him. Heck, she goes out of her way to save and take care of a cub, despite knowing it's not allowed in the apartment.

Rabura is a descendent of priestesses. However, because she's completely out of tune with the supernatural, people frequently call her a fraud and a scammer. She suffers from insecurity and low self-esteem, feeling she's unworthy of living up to her family's name. This is the reason why she's always drowning her sorrows. She eventually chooses to believe that spirits don't actually exist, either because years of failures have convinced her, or it's possibly a means of her coping. However, if you paid close attention to the first episode, it's possible she's not as out of tune with the supernatural as she thinks.

We don't know a lot about Mikatan, the idol hero, or the landlord. We do know at least that Mikatan is a cheerful and friendly young girl who loves getting along with the others. The landlord (who's name I don't remember), is very intelligent, strict, mostly serious, but if her completely buying into the "Cheermancy" thing so fast is any indication, she can also be pretty gullible.

That's what I got out of these characters so far at least.

Again, I'm not saying Punch Line will be good or bad, there's no way to know. I have my own theories about what's going to happen, but nothing certain.

Well, I enjoyed the first eppie and on the strength of it I'm definitely prepared to be somewhat patient. But if the show starts showing signs that episode 2 is it's actual thing, I'm Audi.

This is certainly a weird show. If it continues exactly as it has then it will be a go-nowhere failure like Rolling Girls. It could, however, be building on something, and could easily turn out to be really great if those pieces come together. In the meantime at least it is very well drawn and mildly amusing.

well, it certainly has my attention now that it calmed down, but I'd really like to know what the hell is going on, so some sort of info dump would be nice. or just a simple push in the right direction would be good too

Episode 3:

Ah revelations. Regarding technology in this series, spoiler[I did somewhat expect an android in the form of that tech girl.] Also, one of the guys reminded me of spoiler[Death Gun from SAO II in terms of character design...]

The spoiler[Kenji hero guy was kinda silly imo. I mean, I think he was really trying to save the day but the poses made him looks funny. Still quite a fun show overall.]

Well I would say that I liked the reveal that spoiler[the land lady was an android]. It has helped keep the plot moving.

I was thinking that we kind of have a growing group of ragtag heroes like it is the beginning of a team. We have Strange Juice, spoiler[her robot adviser, an altered bear, a boy who gains power when excited, and..... crotch turtle]. Also noticed that the organisation Q's symbol is a turtle (or is it tortoise).

Well, I certainly enjoyed that more than the last eppie. However, I'm still not seeing enough pantsu fanservice for my taste. Hey, look, I'm not asking for Najica Blitz Tactics levels of panty sightings, but come on...

Alright so this was an okay episode, nothing great but not snore fest like epi 2. It was really helped by having lots of new info, but I wonder how long they can keep this up.

Kinda feel like this show as an A team and a B team doing the writing…

Episode 4:

Soo, they explained a little about spoiler[Yuuta's possession capabilities like its limits and stuff. Funny episode I guess except for the ending. Holy crap, did Ito just....?]

Wow. Kinda excited now for next week's episode!

There's a good chance we might not actually, considering a lot of what's shown in the OP almost entirely consists of rooms in the apartment, the people who live in it, and other objects that can be found in there.
