That really doesn't sound possible. The conditions change after Akira revives him. I've never heard of any bugged copies either. Your copy's not damaged physically or anything, is it?

nope bought brand new from amazon.

Nah dude don't worry about it. That was years ago and I've moved on to smash bros. I'm pretty sure I was doing something wrong too. Thanks anyway.
