I think my favorite alias is Vic Filetoftommorow used in Midori Days. Despite the misspelling of "tomorrow," I like the double pun on filet mignon and mañana.

Non-Japanese names that appear in the show need to be officially Romanized

And then starts the fights on Wikipedia over using Crunchyroll's spellings or the fansub/fanscan/light novel fan translation (or even official sometimes official print novels/manga)...

The only alias that sticks in my mind for whatever reason is Ophelia Cox.

The concept of Labor Day should come to Japan and make it a week long instead of one day.

As for Mangabox, I don't like the F2R business model, I much rather have a subscription based model with unlimited manga viewing for a nice monthly or preferably a yearly rate of about $10-20 a year.

I remember, back in the day, certain people would get angry if you used a voice actor's real name when referring to their non-union work, because you might get them in trouble. Like the unions were stupid enough to think David Lucas wasn't Steven Blum. They understood. I don't think anyone got in serious trouble.

But I think Blum and "David Lucas" even had their own separate ANN Encyclopedia pages at some point.

@Hoppy800,

They do. It's called Golden Week. Plus, ironically enough, Japan gets more holidays compared to "lackadaisical" USA which btw works more hours on average than most Industrialized countries.

I'm very fascinated by the concept of Webtoons. Flashy effects and explosions have always been manga's strong points among other things. Incorporating a few simple animation effects would make their work bring more impact as they intended. I know Nico Nico Douga has their own web manga service so maybe they'll look into this.

[Edit]: removed unnecessary nested quotes. Please read the quoting guidelines. Errinundra.

@Hoppy800

That plan sounds golden.

[Edit]: ditto.

"Funny Story About That Simulcast"

I see what you did there Justin...

Line is a really good app, but I must admit that I was one of the many fans that felt betrayed when Naver started taking down their manwhas from different sites and screwing over the scanlators (?) because of it. Still, I've finally manged to warm up to their service.

Amusingly enough given the content of the last episode, Shirobako is one of the shows that had its last couple episodes' simulcast delayed by a day or two, probably because of delays getting the master. Kill la Kill was another.

Seriously, there's a small army that pretty much destroys themselves every week to bring you your weekly simulcast fix. These range from licensors and production people in Japan, to translators and subtitlers in the US working for Crunchyroll, Funimation, Viz, Bang Zoom, and their subcontractors. We should seriously have a national holiday to celebrate these people, but I'm afraid they'll just have to settle for constant internet nit-picking and disgust at their work.

It's funny because it's true. But seriously, this is definitely something to keep in mind in the future.

Not all aliases are for union reasons. Stephanie Sheh said she had multiple aliases at one point for artistic reasons. She wanted to focus more on her craft instead of her "fame."

Of course doing voices for hentai and ecchi means you don't want your name associated with porn, which is understandable, especially if you're also working in children's entertainment. Heck, some even do this because it might jeopardize their non-entertainment jobs. It's understandable.

There was one actress who was once credited as "Eileen Dover." Nice.

Is it really that much of a stigma in America? In Japan you see seiyuu from shows like Qwaser of Stigmata and Queen's Blade voicing Pretty Cure and Jewelpet characters. I don't really see the big deal myself, though Japan is also a culture that has no problem with the mass market of doujinshi at Comiket where I would assume there's laws against that at American anime conventions.

Not all voice actors do that, but most do. It's more common for straight-hentai than ecchi. I'm not sure if "stigma" is the word, but the actors are probably worried that it won't look too good on a resume/background check. It's most likely the idea of being involved in something pornographic than the job itself. After all, it's not actually their naked bodies on screen. All the job is is just making sexy noises into a microphone.

I, as a person who is studying translation and is practicing some subtitling, would love to be part of that army, even if that completely destroys my life.
