I wonder if Dreamworks just needs money, or is spreading out the risk. I myself have no idea.
Is this like, a common thing for the international distributor? |

I have a bad feeling about this adaptation. I'm not confident in the team producing this to get it done with respect to the original material.

It's not that uncommon for another company to step into a movie deal and handle international distribution. Dreamworks may have been seeking out an international distributor or maybe Paramount saw potential in GITS and simply wanted a piece of that pie. Either way, Paramount and Dreamworks work together frequently, so this really isn't that unusual. |

I understand your concern. But I got faith this will at least be better than other LA's hollywood has made. It seems like now they understand the risk and want to try. It's too bad Del Torro couldn't do this or Death Note. I only trust that man with my LA's . Since he is a big nerd like the rest of us. |

This is going to suck. Paramount can't even handle American franchises lately. What's going to be better with GITS?

I highly doubt they're going to even try. They're clearing investing with the intent to make it fairly mainstream. If you're looking for a straight adaption that is mostly faithful to the manga, I think you're going to be disappointed. |

Doesn't really matter which studio's behind. But the company which gave us that live-action Aeon Flux and Airbender-and if you wanna go there, mostly lackluster Star Trek follow-ups in recent years-being involved does give pause for concern.

Would you rather have some low budget niche film? That sounds pretty awful for something sci-fi where you need a decent budget to make the effects not look like crap. Or would you rather them put some well known names behind it to draw more mainstream attention and thus be worth a larger investment? I'd rather have the latter. |

Interesting news. This is clearly going to have a far bigger budget and be an overall much bigger, more mainstream film than, say, the Kite adaptation, or maybe even Dragonball Evolution.
But the two studios do collaborate a lot, so this really isn't big news. DreamWorks is a minor studio now. Keep in mind that it no longer has anything to do with DreamWorks Animation, except for the name of the company. Though it's usually 20th Century Fox that handles international distribution of DreamWorks films. In an extreme case, maybe they didn't want to have anything to do with another anime adaptation after Dragonball Evolution. Maybe that's why Paramount stepped in.
