Your heart is in the right place for why its good that a standard release for the show is being planned. Its just your first couple sentences about Funi being the godsend of anime felt a bit cringing for me. DON"T GET ME WRONG, you can have your opinion and I won't change it. WELCOME AND ENJOY THE FORUMS! Its just I found other companies that fit my tastes. But its cool that FUNI have a LE for it to go alongside for the CE. But overall, some people here like me are just annoyed with the design for there recent CE's. I adored there AOT, Psycho Pass and Bebop Amazon Edition CE's. Black Lagoon is close to that mold that I wish they would work too again.

I know alot of people hated the darker than black ce but if you look at the price you got 26 eps on blu ray for 60 dollars thats cheap for the disc alone. My only problem with funi is the shows they pick is mainly comedy or action. Also they have tatami galaxy and haven't done anything with it

I couldn't have said it better. I am a huge fan of all three of those releases. Darker Than Black and Soul Eater though? Nope. The paper that they used as the "special packaging" is so flimsy I'm expecting it to completely disintegrate in the next 5 years. lol

These two sets do really strike me as being pretty nice. Chipboard artboxes is a good place to start. Smile

As far as I know, they actually just have the streaming rights. I don't remember them ever announcing Home Video rights, at least.

If you though that was pricey, the FMA BD has a set that is in the $250 range. Sheesh, with that price, you'd think that Funi was working with AoA for the pricing.
Except the FMA BD CE is CHEAPER per episode than the Tokyo Ghoul PE, no, it seriously is. Allow me to do the math using the MSRP, and also the current Rightstuf prices.

Tokyo Ghoul: $130 MSRP divided by 12=Roughly $11 per episode
Fullmetal Alchemist: $330 MSRP divided by 51=Roughly $6.50 per episode

Tokyo Ghoul: $76.50 at Rightstuf divided by 12=$6.37 per episode
Fullmetal Alchemist: $198 at Rightstuf divided by 51=$3.88 per episode

Now what's the more expensive set? Oh right, the Tokyo Ghoul one. And no, Aniplex has nothing to do with why FUNi's CE is so expensive. Heck, if Aniplex imposed high prices on FUNi, then why on earth do they have an RE (Which is cheaper than both current DVD sets combined BTW) and an LE option as well? And here's why the CE is so much more expensive than the LE BTW...
http://www.fandompost.com/oldforums/showthread.php?45670-Fullmetal-Alchemist&p=316461&viewfull=1#post316461

The FMA CE is already going to be more packed than the Japanese Blu-ray box which included only a 56 page booklet. It's even nicer than the Japanese DVD box.

Also a reminder, Fullmetal Alchemist when it was brand new was originally $390 MSRP through 13 $30 singles. So this is actually still quite the discount.

And heck, those singles were released long enough ago that inflation could be factored in, leading to an MSRP in 2015$ of $460-$475.

Its weird for them to only have streaming rights to a 2010 show. The japanese blu ray looks nice http://www.amazon.com/Animation-Tatami-Galaxy-Blu-Ray-TBR-24346D/dp/B00J5S09OK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_74_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1QE4Z8JM15GZ5RXH4WD6 but no english subs so not import friendly. I hope ping pong sold well for them and maybe they will give tatami galaxy a little attention

It's not actually, the problem was it didn't stream well for them when they first simulcasted it in 2010, and they felt it wouldn't sell well enough to justify getting the home video rights. There are a couple of other shows they simulcasted like Rainbow (No longer streaming), C3, Symphogear, Black*Rock Shooter (No longer streaming), House of Five Leaves, and Blessing of the Campanella they never put out, the latter two getting picked up by NISA and Rightstuf respectively while FUNi still retains streaming rights. Our only hope is for Ping Pong to do so well it'll make them rethink how The Tatami Galaxy could do.

Yeah, I would love to own that JP set. It is gorgeous, but I can't justify it without subs. Crying or Very sad

I don't know why, maybe I'm just a pessimistic person, but I don't really get the feeling that Ping Pong sold very well. Maybe it's just because I don't hear anyone talking about it, or sharing photos of it in my online collector's groups. They didn't give it an LE release either... I do my best to speak with my wallet with these kinds of things though. That is why I am buying these two sets and why I skipped Soul Eater and returned Darker Than Black.

One thing did stick out to me when I read the extras on tokyo ghoul is a fabric poster (prolly mini wallscroll) its nice for once to get a poster from a boxset that won't have a cross fold lines and I think it should catch on and get rid of the folded posters in boxsets

I still find it weird that Funi now decides to AoA-level pricing. Regardless, I am hoping that that Cyborg 009 movie sells really well considering that the franchise hasn't really had much success here outside of a cult following.

I'm really not sure where people are getting that from. It seems like a lot of people are ignoring the level of content in these sets versus AoA. Taking the FMA CE, for example. It has 50+ episodes of content for $200 on rightstuf... The same level of content from AoA will run you over $600!

Indeed. These are the kinds of physical extras that make me put serious thought into shelling out extra for CE sets. Even setting aside the fact that you get the whole season instead of four episodes, this still seems nicer than what AoA provides. I suppose we'll see about the final quality, but as a concept, I'd take a small wall scroll over a folded up poster or some postcards any day.

The timing of the Black Lagoon set is interesting considering this very weekend while at a different convention I was thinking that I might double dip for the blu-ray even though I have the old Geneon DVDs. Now, I'll have something else to consider.

Way to completely ignore what I said and what others have said...Rolling Eyes FUNi DOES NOT have AoA-level pricing. Do the math, and then you'll notice FUNi is no AoA. Heck, their prices were actually much higher years ago. http://i.imgur.com/hCgLi8P.jpg http://i.imgur.com/u6HenEh.jpg

Let's bring up say Blue Exorcist into this. They're charging $280 for 25 episodes on Blu-ray, that's already MORE than the FMA CE, and that's TWICE the amount of content. If Blue Exorcist were 51 episodes, it would be nearly $600 they'd be charging. And there's also the LE and RE options for FMA. Here, I'll even link them for you.
http://www.rightstufanime.com/Fullmetal-Alchemist-Complete-Series-BD
http://www.rightstufanime.com/Fullmetal-Alchemist-Complete-Series-Limited-Edition-BD

It's also worth noting the RE BD is the cheapest release the show has ever gotten here. It's cheaper than the current two DVD sets combined.

http://www.rightstufanime.com/Fullmetal-Alchemist-Season-2-DVD-Box-Set-Hyb-Viridian-Collection

Never before have you been able to get the whole show in one go for less than $1 an episode.

As for "FUNi now deciding to have AoA-level pricing", they're doing these nicer releases for those that are collectors. Not everyone wants something like this, which is just discs in the case. Oh wow, two discs in a black case, no booklet, no poster, no inside wrap, no inserts, no special collectible, no nothing, so awesome... This is a super special deluxe limited collector's premium edition right here! Why would anyone want something like this instead of that?

Well, that's nice but I'm content with my old Geneon copies. I can use the money for other things.
