For us Americans that like the action movies, we would likely see that box-office amount as a flop here but we also have to remember the currency difference (as I write this, $1=124.25 Japanese Yen).

#1 at the box office usually means that there will be more.

I just want season 2, people. Hasn't the manga progressed far enough yet?

From what I have read, the first season only covers the first 24 chapters. Now that there are over 70 chapters, I think there is enough space to cover 20-something more.

The first season covered volumes 1-8, and the next will be 9-16. I'm pretty sure they go by volumes but there was a little bit of Chapter 34 in the last anime episode.

As of Chapter 66 there is enough material for the season. There's also the amount of workload that couldn't be done in such a small timeframe. Having it at 2016 only makes sense because the amount of monthly chapters released is only enough material for one season every three years.

If you want second season for the anime, maybe in January. I don't think it will come sooner. So, be patient.

A 600 million yen opening weekend is too low to able to meet with TOHO's projection of a final 5 billion yen gross.

I was thinking the same thing. If it wants to reach that goal by the end of its run it will have to make roughly ten times as much.

Will be interesting to see what its box office take next week is. An AoT film was going to do well on its opening weekend regardless. What have the reviews been like for it?

See, Mr. Higuchi? You don't need to complain about people giving bad reviews. What matters is the box office. This is a fact that Hollywood has known for a long time: Critics are meaningless; all that matters is the normal people who'd want to see it.

There's also how Japan's population is much, much smaller than that of the United States.

Only about 2.5x. If you take this and multiply by 2.5 you get ~$12million which isn't close at all to what even a sorta big hit pulls opening weekend.

Japan's box office is pretty much always off from the US box office by a factor larger than the population difference.

If this opened at 600million, I think they'd need a miracle to even get 2 billion. They're never getting anywhere near that 5 they wanted.

I see. Do people in Japan not go to movies quite as much, or is it just a slow weekend?

It's already confirmed to be coming Spring 2016. It was announced awhile ago.

Does anyone know how much movie tickets cost in Japan? That might have something to do with the lower amount compared to in America. And Japan has a smaller population?

For those that read the manga, without spoiling anything, how close does it seem to be to ending? I thought Isayama originally said it would be about 20 volumes long. Though, now I figure we're looking at a MUCH longer run for it, just because of it's popularity.
