Good review! Great to have more josei out there!
My main complaint about Midnight Secretary is that it repeats the premise in every chapter, which is both annoying and distracting in tankoban form. Does this manga do the same? |

There is some repetition, but it's not of the whole premise - mostly just a reminder that the black magic Koko inherited is totally at odds with the way she was raised. My bigger problem with the series was the fact that for the first two or three volumes Koko is basically at the mercy of any man who is sexually attracted to the black magic leaking out of her, which leads to Kaname "draining" the power by kissing/making out with her while she's not comfortable with it. It's not totally nonconsensual, but it was close enough to make me feel a bit icky about the early volumes.
On the other hand, if that's the kind of romance you like, this is a good one. I'm just more into the hearts and flowers romance stories. |
