The only way this could make sense is if Light's sister somehow got a Death Note.

Honestly, Sayu is a character I'd always been interested in seeing have a larger role in the story, so I'd approve of this. And the second film ended with spoiler[Soichiro telling her that Kira had killed Light], so it'd be interesting to see what'd happen if she learned the truth about her brother.

And L's DNA? They couldn't work in Near? Yeah, it's not like he existed in the live action movie's continuity or anything.

He was in L: Change the WorLd.

I'm probably in the minority, but out of all the Death Note media, the live-action movies were always my favorite. They were hammy, absurd, and fun from start to finish, but definitely maintained the tension and basic moral conflict of the source material.

This new plot sounds completely ridiculous, and you know what? I'm cool with that. If the movie's good, I don't care. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

That was sarcasm.

... In retrospect, I really should have picked up on that just based on the wording.

So, basically, they shifted from collecting Dragon Balls to collecting Death Notes. Rolling Eyes

I haven't seen the third one yet, but I greatly prefer the movies to the anime and manga. "Hey, Dad, I'm really smart, let me onto your team!" vs "Hey, Dad, my girlfriend just got murdered by Kira, I want revenge. I'm smart enough to help, let me onto your team!" always made more sense to me.

It was established that Light had helped the police with a past case (some kind of kidnapping or extortion case) well before he ever found the Death Note. The guy at the desk at the department recognizes Light from that case when he comes to drop off clean clothes for his father (and runs into Naomi Misora).

Anyway, there was no need for more than the first two movies, let alone that third, and certainly not a fourth. Not unless it's some kind of reboot.

This sounds really cool although I'd prefer a new manga from the original creators that followed this premise.

If this was an anime sequel I'd watch it. Otherwise they're just milking L and Light - should've just used new characters non related to the events of the past with maybe old side characters making an appearance on the side again.
