I wonder if it gets a simulcast over here if they'll use the localized names or if it'll be a direct translation.
I figure FUNi will probably end up with the rights to it, seeing as how they're usually the ones to pick up all the big name video game anime properties. At least, the ones not produced by Aniplex, that is.

Hopefully it will be an adaption of the first game (or even the first trilogy), not an original story. |
To be honest, I feel the opposite. Aside from the fact that I've played the original so much (and watched the movie) that I know the story like the back of my hand, I can't help but feel that most game adaptations suck so much BECAUSE they try and tie themselves to the source material. Video Games don't have a finite amount of time to convey their stories, unlike TV Anime, therefore the pacing is different. |
Original stories often suck too because they take so much creative freedom that it changes into something too different to call it an adaption. Ace Attorney is more about the plot than the characters or the setting, so I feel a lost of its essence would be lost if it was an original story.
In any case, I will watch it regardless (if it's an original story, I hope it at least gets supervised by Shu Takumi).

I'm pretty sure that they've said it's covering the first three games.

Hopefully it does cover the first 3 games, although having some new cases would be cool too

Regardless of my feelings of game-anime...I just hope this results in more merchandise.
Where's my Phoenix nendoroid? My Maya doll? My Edgeworth figma? Come on!

I want AA figmas I can put into silly poses. So excited for this! It'll be cool to see everything in motion. Fingers crossed that the Steel Samurai makes an appearance.

SOMEONE TELL ME I DIDN'T MISREAD THIS. I'VE WAITED SO LONG.
*cries in the corner*

I hope you're right. I would love to hear someone like Eric Vale as Phoenix Wright and J Michael Tatum as Miles Edgeworth. But then again, there was that Dual Destinies 3DS game with an English dub track where Sam Riegel voiced Phoenix and Kyle Hebert voiced Miles Edgeworth.

On the one hand, Funimation's gotten a lot better with getting original casts back (Neptunia, BlazBlue). On the other hand, Sam Riegel and Kyle Hebert are probably the only game actors in any position to come back if this show is based only on the first three games. Funimation would need to cast everyone else from scratch if they get the license.

If FUNi licensed it and dubbed it, this is what the cast should look like in my opinion:
Phoenix Wright - Eric Vale
Miles Edgeworth - J Michael Tatum
Mia Fey - Colleen Clinkenbeard
Maya Fey - Monica Rial
Larry Butz - Todd Haberkorn
Dick Gumshoe - Christopher R Sabat
Franziska von Karma - Brina Palencia
