Except for the one in the middle, we've no proof those are very recent photo's of them, so yeah they could very well be what they looked like when they were that age. Also there is the chance they have been airbrushed anyway even if they are recent.

It's mostly what you eat. Japanese diet is one of the healthiest in the world, together with the Mediterranean one.

Diet is definitely a big part of it. Even something as simple as all that processed artifical cereal isn't really popular in Japan. It's hard to find cereal and it's really over-priced there, and you don't really see the same Kelloggs and General Mills brands you're used to. Breakfest was usually either fish, rice, toast, noodles or some combination of those when I lived in Japan. Much healthier and natural.
