Forgot WFP went "private", thanks for reminding me. And I don't see anyone really complaining about the fact they're remakes, they're complaining about the quality of them.

@Sympan Someone hasn´t seen NBC´s TV-14 primetime show Hannibal. It is the definition of a 10/10 and is the most (visually) f#ucked up series i ever saw after the pay-tv Spartacus and Oz.

not quite. i have a nasty suspicion that this new berserk anime will be ala FMA: Brotherhood where its more faithful towards the manga source. though it being a sequel of the three movies isnt farfetched either and considering how popular they were, its highly possible. |

Yeah, it was definitely beautiful and horrific at the same time. So sad they only got to do up to Red Dragon... Have you seen Ash vs. The Evil Dead? The gore on that is pretty great... |

Awesome, I remember they were saying they would eventually adapt the rest of Berserk and I'd thought they'd forgotten about it. Really looking forward to seeing the Conviction and Millennium Empire arcs eventually animated. It's true the CG in the movies could look pretty bad, but maybe Studio 4C's CG has improved (if 4C is still doing it). Anyway, no surprise that Berserk is on a irregular schedule now with way the last couple chapters have come out. Oh well, as long as Miura finishes Berserk sometime in his lifetime (lol), it's all good.

Sucks that the manga's on hiatus again after it just got going... oh well, I guess we're kinda used to it by this point.
New anime is potentially great news, so long as it's nothing like the movies. Those were honestly probably the worst adaptation of anything I've ever seen. And that CG has got to [expletive] go. Blech. But assuming they do a good job with it, it'll be amazing to see the Conviction arc get animated. Oh, and I second that dude who said we need a Kenshin remake. It's like... the only thing left that could make next year better. |

I don't mind a Hunter x Hunter esque anime adaptation that retreads old material. I would love it.
I don't think this is that, though. It'll probably be some very rough, very shortened sloppy OVA - similar to the movies - or it'll skip a lot of these smaller black swordsman arcs and jump to past the golden age. That's my negative expectation. Even if it was a full-series, which would be awesome, I don't think it would capture the wonderful pacing of the original anime - though it would not need to do so. It would probably have to go through the golden age at a faster pace. Hopefully not a FMA:Brotherhood blitz but more akin to Hunter x Hunter - which I consider the benchmark for these adaptations. Oh, and I'd love a Claymore sequel too |

@gpanthony I watched Captain Supermarket vs. The Evil Dead on the day it premiere and the continuity may have turned into a legal nightmare but the man behind the groovy is back!
Evil Dead (2013) is also strongly recommended but for hardcore horror hounds only as it redefined the definition of suffering and originally got an NC-17 for violence when it was first submitted. It even has a new take on the tree rape scene. Isn´t fascinating how Mr. Spiderman started his career but Mr. Hobbit began his cinematic life as a bad boy too. The Evil Dead musical is also a delight. I am not a gore hound though as i hate Saw 2-7. My biggest takeaway from the 4°C abortions is that they made Walter, who is the owner of skullknight.net, like Berserk less. He also accused them of swindling Miura and that can´t be argued if you compare the finished product to the concept pilot. A friend of mine got introduced to the franchise through them and he described them as hentai and didn´t understand how i could like the source material. I can´t argue with that as they de-evolved into actual rape porn by the end (my 3/10 Imdb review for than one is way too high in hindsight) but i forced him to read my volumes the next day and it´s his favorite comic now. Ah true friendship. We will know what´s up within 24 hours but there are no indications as of now that they are involved and who would hire a studio who managed to loose money the last time around? They even reused assets for a commercial... Miura stated that a lot of studios pitched ideas for an adaptation over the years so here is hoping that i don´t get a lump of coal tomorrow. We are now bitching about FMA: Brotherhood which is the 2nd highest rated anime on the site? How gr8T. The Berserk manga is the highest rated ANN entry btw. |

Here's another visual.
Everything that could be said about the movies has already been said, so I'll keep it short. I wasn't expecting it to be a panel for panel, super-duper faithful version, it's obviously not feasible considering the runtime, but even accounting for that, they really did cut out a lot of events and interactions and made a lot of unnecessary changes to the story's detriment. As a result, things didn't quite make sense, the events in the movies, especially the 3rd movie, were weakened in terms of emotional impact, and it makes doing further adaptations of the story post-Golden Age awkward as well. I like some things the movies did, but it wasn't nearly enough. Anyway, I'm hopeful whoever's doing it will deliver a good product. The same studio who did the movies expressed an interest in doing the Conviction arc I think, so if they're doing the adaptation, they'll mostly skip to that arc. |
