^ Oh yeah, I wouldn't subscribe to any kind of subscription box thing... as I don't have much money.... but... even if I did have money, I'm only into "a small number of the things", and you really have to be into "all of the things" for most of these boxes to be worth it. Well, unless you're planning on re-selling all the things you're not into on eBay.

Me, I subscribe to Universal Yums because I like snacks and don't have any allergies or beliefs that stops me from eating them. (They are careful to minimize things that contain meat though.) In a sense, Universal Yums becomes a sampler.

The main concern about other mystery box subscriptions is that I don't have much space left to put collectible items. Loot Anime is quite compelling, but I wouldn't know where to put twelve or even three boxes' worth of stuff. It's a non-issue when it's stuff I eat though.

I can't speak about their anime box, but the general Loot Crate is offensively inoffensive. It feels focus tested to hit every vein advertisers believe "geeks" love. At times some of the stuff in the box comes across as an advertisement. Every month seems to be Marvel, Batman, Star Wars, the expected topical genre thing of the month (if not Star Wars, Batman or Marvel) and maybe a shout out to one lesser known thing.

They have to be. Not only are the most popular IPs the ones with the most merchandise and the ones most easily available, you have to have at least some level of mainstream popularity to maintain interest for the general Loot Crate audience. There has to be something in there everyone can recognize when they open it up to create that emotional attachment.

Loot Crate, in particular, seems to play into nostalgia. Every month's box contains some homage to or merchandise of 80's television, movies, video gaming, or comic books (or, in rare instances, music). One of the ones I got last year contained the full novel Ready Player One, which is the ultimate 80's homage.

Another thing is that Loot Crate directly collaborates with merchandise companies like Funko and Jakks Pacific, which is why so many Loot Crate items are labeled as "Loot Crate Exclusive." Not as much of it is overstock as it might seem.

I wonder if there's already an adult oriented mystery box. If not, I'm sure that could be a thing and some marketers should jump on it

If there's a mystery box dedicated solely to shaving, there is probably one dedicated to pornography or sex toys. I haven't heard of one though.

Grab bags at anime conventions do not have the family-friendly limitations companies like Loot Crate follow though. I've gotten some erotic figurines in some of them (whose quality varies a lot but tends towards low). I do not display any of those. It says something, though, that one of these grab bags containing an erotic figurine also contained some random booster packs for Yu-Gi-Oh!, Cardfight! Vanguard, and My Little Pony TCG.

Good thing to know I wasn't the only one with problems. According to rules of previous contests, we're screwed, but we'll see.

I got the same problem but did not put my stuff in the 2nd time. Does that make me screwed to?

So I'm sol even though I only resubmitted because of the over taxed server error message?
That's a messed up bunch of bull. I understand not wanting multiple entries but then have a server that can handle your entries.
At least I won't have to worry about whether I won or not.
Way to ruin a contest.

I'd be wary of this sort of thing... you have no control whatsoever as to what they send you (it could be adult items or otherwise inappropriate; in any case there's no guarantee it will be from series that you like).

Also, the claim that it's $60 should be taken with a major grain of salt... these things tend to ship whatever they can get a bulk discount on, which tends not to be things in high demand.

The big red flag is that they claim it's "curated", but really they just fill up boxes and send it to you. There is NO attempt to tailor it to a particular taste, theme, or other sort of arrangement that a curator would normally be responsible for.

It's very likely that this company is offering some kind of financial incentive to ANN to run this promotion. Kind of like a stealth marketing thing. Please be careful. EVen if you don't win, they'll have your info and will probably spam you to buy their products.

From experience the only "adult item" I have received from loot anime so far would be the crate I just received yesterday and that was a pair of Tokyo Ghoul shot glasses. Other than that no XXX rated or questionable content yet.

Dang, I also got that error message but I had a mistake in my shipping address. Forgot that this keyboard is broken. The TAB key is actually the Enter key. Submitted my name and email with incomplete address. Went back and filled it in only to get the multiple times error.

Yes, it's part of an advertising plan.

Unless explicitly stated in the contest (ex: as part of an opt-in) we never give any PII (personally identifiable information, ex: your name, e-mail address, etc.) about non winners to our contest sponsors.

Apologies for the error message. I don't know what is causing it, but I can confirm that all entries are being received.

Not sure why people would think getting a random box of mystery junk would be appealing. Confused

Maybe if you didn't have any anime merchandise and were looking to start a collection it would pretty cool, but with my luck and all the stuff I already have I'd probably end up with duplicates or something I hate. Laughing

These mystery boxes appeal to people who don't particularly dislike anything of a particular category and are glad to get merchandise of it, or in the case of the original Loot Crate, of anything in general. They aren't aimed at people who already collect figures or shirts or comic books or keychains or anything of the like, but of the vaguely curious. That is, if you're only into specific things, it won't appeal to you. If you want to get collectibles of something familiar but you don't care what, that's whom they're for.

I get at least one grab bag at every anime convention I go to, for instance, as they're an inexpensive way to get a bunch of random stuff. When I get something from a series I'm not too familiar with, I go and look it up later.

Some of these items are also good for selling or trading. For instance, one of the grab bags I got contained a plush of Kuro, the black cat mascot of Sony Computer Entertainment. I don't have Toro, but I found someone who does and has been looking for Kuro for years. We were going to trade plushes, but I think we both kind of forgot about it.
