I love those penguins in Penguindrum. <3<3<3 A lot of nice mascots with character have already been mentioned, like Nyanko-sensei. If I were to add one I'd say "Steak" from Tegami Bachi. While he's usually sitting on top of Niche's head, he also tries to help out in battle by finding the weak-spots of those monster-insects. He's one of those cute-scary things and there are some funny scenes when Niche is deciding on whether to eat him or not.

@ParaChomp: You can't tell which series you're spoiling without looking at the spoiler and being spoiled. You should edit your post to mention Attack on Titan outside the spoilers so the tag is better than useless.

All these posts and no one's mentioned Chuck from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt?! Nothing beats that poor green whatever-it-is for sheer durability.
As for the more "mainstream" mascots, Ryo-ohki will always have a special place. I have the same plushie as in the article photo, and it has a place of honor atop my subwoofer. |

I kind of feel like an anime mascot shouldn't be too involved with the plot (which ruled out Kyubey for me), in much the same way that a sports mascot shouldn't be involved with their team's on-field action (though I wouldn't mind seeing the Notre Dame Leprchaun getting decked by a linebacker either).

Right - that's where I got stuck. To me a mascot is just a cute add-on who maybe does one thing - like enable transformation like Miton or Pigu and Mogu - whereas a fuzzy cutie who actually does something is a character. I like plenty of the latter, like Nyanko-sensei, Finn Fish and Access Time, and Chopper, but to me they aren't "mascots." |

I think I'd have to say my favorite mascot is Kuroneko from Trigun. Even though he doesn't really do much to add to the story, he's still a little quirk in the background of the series. He's so cute!

Kero from Cardcaptor Sakura Kyuubey from Madoka Haro from Gundam franchise Pikachu from Pokemon franchise Culumon from Digimon Tamers and how come anyone here dont mention our manly mascot Paya-tan from Dai Mahou Touge/Magical Witch Punie-chan? Oh god the mascot recruitment scene is so damn funny |
