I usually don't like the seductress type characters, but I find myself oddly liking Yurishia, minus the bust. She should be the lead. |

I think that I realised last week that a lot of this show is just too ridiculous for me to find it sexy. Like their battle outfits that let their boobs just hang out, it feels like there is no logical reason.

Having watched all five episodes today, the show isn't as bad as I thought it would be from what I've heard. I enjoy it quite a lot although I can't help but spit out water every time there's fanservice. At least they try to justify the stuff with the whole "power-up the females" reason. Still, I think I would be better off watching hentai but there's a level of charm to this show. It does have some nice enemy designs for the Magitech stuff.
Easier access to the breasts for fondling/foreplay would be the reason I assume. |

While the others are fighting Kizuna and Himekawa abondon the battle and go to have "sex". While it makes sense in the context of this story, it does still seem silly when you think about it. But what am I talking about, everything is silly about this show. |

It was a problem I could see from the very start, where the series opened up showing him having taken one of the girls aside to "power up". How can they even get their freak on when they have so many other things on their mind. What I am more thinking was how she had a cat tail that she could move, but apparently it was just an spoiler[anal plug] (at least I think that was what it was). The whole thing felt super awkward. Oh, and apparently she is self conscious about thinking she is small, which she does not look like that. New girl, Scarlet, it felt like she just came out of a different anime: Testament Sister New Devil, Sky Wizards Academy or Chivalry of a Failed Knight. |

You mean breasts? That's what she said. Which is ridiculous as her breasts are definitely not small. Well, maybe if you're surrounded by 2 (maybe 3 if you count Kizuna's big sis) girls packing those massive monstrosities, you might start to feel that way. |

Episode 12
Was that pee or love juice? *sighs* What to say about this one. After every episode I thought "Ugh... it's not gonna get worse than this, right?.... Right?" I was wrong. It had all the typical shortcomings of a generic magic high school light novel adaption. All of that combined with the most tasteless fanservice I've ever seen made for a savage viewing experience. It had a couple mildly decent action scenes. The ending was pretty good and the opening was decent. I didn't get Aine's "I am me" line. It felt random and out of place. That line makes sense when the person has been under mind control or hasn't been acting like themselves. It's not a line you use in place of "I'm dealing with inner conflicts, but I can still do my part". Just a weird nitpick for me. At the end of it, I'm left wondering "Why did I do it?" I don't know. Well maybe from now on, when watching a bad show, I can think "Well at least it won't be as bad as HxH Magias Academy Ataraxia!" "To be continued". Does that mean there's going to be more?! *laughs maniacally*... *laughing intensifies*... *laughing reaches Climax (hybrid)* Aah... I won't do it. |

This was another one I ditched after about episode 4. When you can't keep the attention of a fanservice/ecchi appreciator like myself, you know you are really doing something wrong.

Episode 12 (finale)
Yep, this was bad. For the record I am going to mention that I watched this uncensored, because it felt like there was no point to even watch the censored version. You know, fanservice heavy shows don't have to be bad, they can have all sorts of fetishes and the like and still not feel like insulting. Hybrid x Heart was not one of those. My strongest opinion of the show is that I actually find that it is actually harmful. A lot of the sex scenes, I think it is fair to actually call them that, were kind of beyond being tasteless. I think most of them had the girl in question shouting "No!" and "Stop!", before he of course does not stop and it inevitably leads to the girl enjoying it anyway. I am aware of how Japanese porn can treat this sort of fetish that apparently the girl is too embarrassed but the man is going to make her feel good, but it is pretty darn rape, and how it was done was quite insulting to these female characters. And I think it goes beyond the lack of consent thing. The way he got the girls excited was really clumsy. I am not a girl, maybe I don't understand how it works, but things like how he violently treated their breasts did not come across as sexy, but borderline assault. I am probably opened up for rebuttal, but there seemed a total lack of understanding of female sexuality, the use of the main character as a tool for it was kind of gross. I think the show actually tried to hide behind the fact that his goal is to excite them and that most of the female students are wrongly accusing him of being a felon, but I actually kind of started to sympathise with the female students. I don't know how accurate it is, but I feel like at least The Testament of Sister New Devil was at least better with feeling like the girls actually wanted and enjoyed their time and was to some extent sexy. Hybrid x Heart actually showed more, an uncovered crotch of a girl. But despite that, since this was not hentai, the genitals were simply missing, which kind of removed feelings of excitement in watching as with my male brain pulling away the curtain and showing nothing there removed the mystery or the anticipation that maybe something will slip. Lots of nipples, but it became a bit boring. I have barely actually talked about character yet, and that is because there was barely any to talk of. If I had to pick favourite characters it would probably be the petite Sylvia, with Yurishia kind of making an impact above the other two. Sylvia was kind of clumsily put in early on as apparently observing his relationship with the girls, it was not elegant but it was kind of funny that this super moe trait girl who did not match the other girls by being young. Sylvia was kind of funny by proxy of what her role was, but to be honest I think she barely appeared, like the show did not know what to do with her, until she suddenly gets recruited into the fighting team, the scenes that lead up to it kind of made no sense. Kizuna kind of made it clear that he did not want the girls having the magic tech devices in them because it put their lives in danger like a terminal sort of way, but for some reason he agrees to install one in Sylvia, a few lines are thrown around that he does not want it, but he still does it himself, like it was his responsibility. Story wise it feels like it would have made more sense if his sister did it without his permission, he would get upset but Sylvia would say she wanted to do it, while really it feels like they used it to just lead to him do it in some vague love making session. On the upside, Sylvia actually managed to be one of the most awesome bits of the series when she fought. Continuing onto the American, big boobed and blonde Yurisa, she stood out against the other two girls because it actually felt like to some extent the show acknowledged that she could actually want the sexy time herself, being forward made her feel mildly refreshing in comparison. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure the show actually undercut this by putting the narrative that she still did not know the sort of things she wanted. I would say that the show also did not know what to do with her, when it came down to it the scenes kind of treated her again as submissive, and the attempt of a storyline of bringing in the other girl for the threesome thing, I don't think made a lot of sense. The other two girls, Aine and Hayuru, kind of blended together, they both seemed to be a mix of embarrassment and not really willing to want to be involved in the act regardless of what some of the make out sessions would otherwise say. Hayuru I think had the sort of thing about her really being modest while Aine wanted to be strong, but in practice they were kind of boring, The focus on both of them made it feel like the story also did not know what to do differentiate their relationship roles. Despite all the bad stuff, there were some pretty cool fight scenes, the one with Sylvia was especially awesome, there were some pretty interesting enemy designs, and I think fighting powers. But it was all weighted down by the fanservice and like, it wasted. Going all the way back to an earlier point, the artificial environment make out room had some poor scenes. In the last episode it kind of makes no sense why he suddenly believes that Aine is going to get excited from things like people watching her with no underwear. I mean it is pretty clear that none of the "people" in it are real, it does not make any sense why she can both feel the pressure to follow the class in it and the anxiety that they may look up her dress. I could understand feeling a little uncomfortable with how real they look, but it goes beyond that and looks pretty uncomfortable. My point was that some of the fetish scenes got in the way of the cool bits. Their outfits were ridiculous. Overall I give a rating of Weak (3/10). I mean it was bad, but I cannot go past the fact that certain elements still made me enjoy parts of it compared to shows I would rate lower. I did recently rate Scared Riders Xechs really low, and I did a similarly long post about my kind of bad experience through the whole thing, and I cannot ignore the reason I might rate this as two points higher than that is because I am the target gender and elements can appeal in a guilty pleasure sort of way. In general I would say that Hybrid x Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia is like a weaker version of Infinite Stratos 2, where people did not understand what made the sequel fail so much and made an even weaker version. |

This last episode was expecially bad as Kizuna forced Aine to go through public humiliation. Those "people" were probably just projections or something, but it was still pretty bad. The show would have us believe that it was ok because, in truth, Aine was actually enjoying it, she just didn't want to admit it at first. The whole thing was just really tasteless. I guess a character trait like that could work if they properly build on it, but here it's just felt like shameless fanservice to a very specific fetish. |
