Just as I expected Very Happy Really the only company that would bother picking up a film like this. Looking forward to it!

Nothing alike.Their a company that focuses on picking up indie to "artsy" animated films that no else would bother with.

Thank you, thank you. Just the other day I was thinking that GKids were the ones that might have gotten Miss Hokusai. I love this movie, and I want to buy it on BD. Creating and English dub would be ideal, but it is not a must for me.

There'll be a dub. Gkids dubs pretty much everything they pick up that isn't originally in English.

This is also the company that released Patema Inverted here, just FYI.

EDIT:

Wait, why are they called Gkids? Sounds kinda odd, considering this film contains scenes about the production of ancient Hentai.

No seriously; the artists draw it in the film.

What really? I mean they've dubbed it, quite sometime ago, we even got a release with their dub in the UK. I thought a dub would be a guaranteed home release.

looking forward to this... if it has even half the production values and heartfelt storytelling of "a letter to momo", it will be great.

Not sure but they have done artsy animated films that are not really kids films. They released one called Wrinkles which is basically a character study about elderly people living in a retirement home and dealing with dementia. Which while it was really good, I can't really imagine most kids would enjoy it. (Also, the trailer for it is really deceiving, it is a lot less wacky then it makes it out to be).

Yep. I would have thought that as well. No sign of it yet though.

Their main Media guy(I think?) talked about their name and why they have it on ANNCast at one point. Can't remember what the actual reason was, but it's not really a name he loved. It's just the name they currently have. It might have something to do with the NY Children's Film Festival.

I know. I've seen the film.

But yeah, that name doesn't exactly fit in the direction to company's going.

GKIDS has acquired distribution rights to Miss Hokusai, recipient of the Jury Prize at the 2015 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, and plans to give it an an awards season release on Oct. 14 in New York

Oct. 14 is around the time of the New York Comic Con, so they're obviously timing it when the city is all hyped up for geek fandoms.

That's how they got started:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GKIDS#History

  • GKIDS was founded in 2008 by Eric Beckman, who previously co-founded and ran the New York International Children's Film Festival

Kinda like they're called FUNimation because they started with Dragon Ball.
