I see the amount of time devoted to setup as both a pro and a con for this series. It did help with character development, but it also resulted in a slow ramp up that basically culminates in the show finally getting good right when there is a non-ending. I'd definitely come back for more if it is continued since the show got progressively more interesting, but it doesn't seem like that will be happening anytime soon, if at all.

That last paragraph should be hilarious to anyone who's seen the whole series; To think that there's a point to this series or even a side, I mean, what the "conspiracy" turns out to be...

spoiler[Honestly, when the writers can't figure out who was doing what for what reason, good luck to the audience.] But this is second season stuff so what's the first? Waiting for the main characters to finally reunite because it's one of those series. It's a waiter and I don't mean Working!!

You know, the kind of shounen shows where the plot/scenario/what the heroes have to do is introduced and promptly ignored in favor of getting chapters published and episodes made.

Yet my main beef with this series is not that, comes with the shounen medium unfortunately, but that it's not a Shiki or Attack on Titan clone; In this series, the vampires are here and we're all kind of stuck with them, both the characters and the audience. The fact that the lesser protagonist is a vampire is something of a clue that this would be the case, barring an "all cure" deus ex machina. But while Shiki and AoT have the same kind of characters with the same positions, call them "frenemies", those are more more "surprise, I'm one of them and imma kill you" than Seraph's "we're going to be friends now, aren't we?"

And the series name; Imagine if FMA... not even Brotherhood... was named "Father's Day" then you'll understand how much this partial adaptation has to do with its own plot.

My own rating: It's not as bad as Blood Lad as Seraph at least pretended it wanted to do something with its plot.

If you are reading/watching Seraph for its plot, you're asking to be disappointed. The manga never pretends to be anything other than a vector for its otaku and fujoshi-friendly character designs, the light novels are 100% light novel-style fanservice, and the show is nothing more than a glorified Shonen Jump ad. The whole thing is designed by committee from the ground up, and the creators are pretty up-front about their attempts to create a popcorn-style multimedia blockbuster.

Judged on those standards, however, the show's not too bad. It's a fully-realized and well-constructed implementation of a done-to-death concept. Sure, at any given moment you can predict what is going to happen in the next 5-10 minutes of the show, but there are worse things to be than a genre retread.

As a bonus, the anime is pretty inoffensive compared to similar contemporary multi-media action titles; while I consider Soul Eater and A Certain Magical Index to be better shows, I would be way more comfortable putting on an episode of this for non-anime-savvy audiences (although the list of titles I'd put on before this one is probably a page long).

All in all, the show got me to buy the manga and the light novels, so I guess it did its job.

"intimate brotherly relationship with Mikaela"

I... don't think that's what their relationship is. I think they're in love with each other.

I think it's more like Mikaela is in love with Yuu and Yuu only sees him as a legit brother from another mother.

Nah, their feelings seems mutual.

Man I expected lower scores like the ones from Luluco, but I guess Seraph is quite solid despite not having a conclusion.

Am I the only one who sees the bigger picture with this series? I mean essentially they are children who were used by livestock by the vampires and on the other side government used them to experiment on them. The question is what will this end as? When the last vampire is gone? Or is there some bigger picture here?

Okay, maybe Mika likes Yu... But I'm pretty sure Yu is going to go for Shinoa, just saying.

Shipping aside... I really didn't like this first season. Beyond being boring, refusing to give us a haunting, tragic atmosphere (like AOT, which made the series interesting), and decently animated, this series put WAY too much emphasis on friendship to where it was plastic and annoying. At least Battle in Nagoya is a slight improvement.

Lol take off your yaoi goggles. Anime hyper

Yuu is not in love with anyone right now. (though Yuunoa is OTP) And he's not a total idiot. In the manga he reads books and stuff and he's actually shown to have a pretty good memory. The anime kinda leaves those details out though.

I loved Seraph of the End. It does run slow towards the beginning-middle, but I think it gets really interesting once they go to the battle in Shinjuku (or Shibuya I can't remember). When Mika and Yuu finally meet again (those two are so precious together idek lol).

I also really love Yoichi's character. He's a kind little cinnamon roll, but is never in the way during battle because of his kind nature. Definitely refreshing and makes you want to root for him more.

As for dub performances: I can't believe you didn't talk about Micah! He did so well as Yuu I was really impressed. I haven't heard him since the Soul Eater days and he's improved so much since then; I'm really proud of him lol.

Second season is good too! I'll be buying both eventually Smile

I'm not even into yaoi.

And that's not it, the creator said they are like Romeo and Juliet, so...

It's not entirely clear from the review - did they fix the horrendous non-animation toward the end of this season (esp. episodes 9-10) for the disk release or not? It sounds like they didn't completely re-do it, but is there at least some animation in the battle scenes or is it still all speed lines and still shots (not to mention the plethora of off-model moments)?

Also, did they fix the part in the simul-dub of the first episode where the vampires claim responsibility for unleashing the virus as punishment on the humans? Cause that's neither what the Japanese was saying, nor the fact of the matter.

Yeah, Micah just works, but I really like how he mentioned Felecia's performance as being dub superior. I'm more surprised he didn't mention Justin Briner, but then again all of his roles are starting to pale because his Izuku is just too good. If you want to hear more Micah, check out Eureka Seven AO or A Certain Magical Index - or Guilty Crown if you want to see him go villain.
