Yeah, Reaper Record is definitely the best story I've read from Kagerou so far. Both the story itself and the way it's presented - in the epubs I got you had a few pages with just one phrase each to represent how important those words were - were pretty good. The interactions between Azami and what's-his-name got a little too cliché tsundere at times but it was still mostly fine.

I have no idea what's up with Shintaro and the gang though. The interactions feel all so forced, perhaps because of Shintaro's internal voice.

Sigh, I think I lost interest in this franchise about a chapter into the first LN. The Mekakucity Actors anime laid bare the fact that the convoluted backstory-after-backstory nature of the material makes it awfully hard to parse, and not entirely rewarding to do so when all is said and done. It may just be that the self-contradictory jumble of characters and events presented by the original song cycle is the best way to appreciate the Kagerou Project.
