No one is EVER going to watch that. I'm sorry, if what they did with the Avatar the Last Airbender movie was horrible, they're going to bury themselves with this television show. I'm definitely not going to watch this. I'm sorry if I seem rude, but come on. No more. Please. This is starting to hurt. A LOT.

My question is this. Are they going to keep most of the female cast in tact? Or are they going add more guys to "balance" it out because a harem-like cast in an American live-action TV series is too weird for them (unless a harem-like show already existed on TV).

I feel like I've been hearing about these western live action anime shows/movies for a decade now, but I really can't think of a single one that's even been released. It seems like they're either stuck in limbo or all coming out within the next couple years.

Well that I did not see coming. At all.
I am optimistic whenever a live action series of a manga / anime is announced and that's the case here as well. Granted usually the optimism turns to disappointment time and again but SAO at least seems doable just like with GITS.
Ah heck they're gonna mess this up big time aren't they?

Live action AND American? LOL this should be VERY interesting. Let's see how well (or not) it does. I wonder who is the target audience this time.

Glass half-full: for once, an American anime adaptation is of something that's not already 15-50 years old (Speed Racer, Astro Boy, Dragonball Evolution, and the trapped-in-development-hell Akira, Robotech, Battle Angel Alita, etc.)

Can't wait for all the gamer lingo like PWNED and NOOB. TV always gets video games wrong in their depiction.

Well, that's quite an... impressive resume Then again, this is SAO, not Evangelion, doesn't require a lot of "masterful" writing to get the job done.
The notion that a property has to be americanized for the 'murrican audience to buy it is one I find very ridiculous. Though I guess I find the fact that such notion tends to be proved true, even more depressing and ridiculous. At least this franchise does lend itself to getting a more international oriented adaptation. Maybe they'll make the main pair a couple of American otaku (Kurt and Ashley? ), so their in-game names remain the same

Oh God no. Idk whats worse this or the new power rangers movie? I see failure all over this. Our record of Anime turned live action in the USA. Not Good. Dragonball and Fist of the North Star that I seen. Reminds me of Hollywood calling Bandai for the rights to make a Gundam Movie. "I can give the HQ's number but they're gonna say NO." I had to help do that. Moving on so what Kirito is white now and lives in NYC in the live action or what? That's why I been losing interest in American movies and tv.

I'm not fond of Sword Art Online, but I'll try this adaptation out. Hopefully they have nice visuals and keep the soundtrack. As another has pointed out, I wonder if they'll keep the harem elements. If this proves successful and they adapt later stories, I wonder if they will keep the incest elements.

I would be interested to see how this works out. Would rather they have a shot at a show I care little about than ruin one I like, they have an opportunity to improve on the original here.
Still, wish del Toro would get to work on Monster.
