Like 5 minutes after posting this I couldn't use the forums again
At work right now, seems fine. I'll see how it is when I get home, but I expect it to not work again.

I've been getting the error all weekend. I tried changing my DNS, flushing the DNS cache, different browsers, and different computers, all with no change. After verifying that like you, I had no problem accessing the forum via cellular data on my phone, I tried a free proxy on my computer, and here I am.
I'm on a regional cable ISP (Fidelity Communications), not Comcast, so while some ISPs clearly aren't affected, the problem certainly isn't limited to a single ISP.

Update to my situation:
Had some random moments where I could access the site through my cellular data and then moments in which I couldn't. I only tried once (around the same time) at my workplace's computers but they couldn't access the site as well. So I'm willing to guess this isn't a problem with ISPSs since my workplace and home use different ISPSs.

I'm from Brazil and this problem has been persistent since last Saturday afternoon. Every time I try to access the ANN forums or the encyclopedia, I get redirected to the "503 - Service Temporarily Unavailable" page no matter which device or browser I use. I was only able to post this thanks to a free VPN website. Are you by any chance blocking certain IP addresses?

Soon after posting yesterday I was not able to get on again, the same "Anime News Network is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance. Please try again later.". Through.a flash of inspiration I tried putting my mobile phone to mobile data and it weirdly works. Why is this happening with normal internet? I have really had enough of internet problems lately.

Glad to see in not the only one. Same issues, can't access the forum or encyclopedia at home regardless of the device or troubleshooting, but have no issues on cellular. I'll check tomorrow at work.

Sorry for the trouble everyone, it's now fixed.
The gory details: On Nov 12 08:50 EST, Apache crashed on mayu. Visitors sent to that server (based on their IP address) would get an error when trying to access any php page. Tomorrow I'll investigate why our monitoring system failed to detect such an obvious failure.

Cool. As I say, I wasn't hugely effected for long periods, but it was the worry that it might get worse that was nagging at me.

Well, it's one more distraction back into my life (that I warmly welcome)! Doesn't look like I missed too much since I was able to access the news but not the forums.
