ANN has to update this article. Apparently Oricon made a HUGE mistake. Total sales figures for YOI volume DVD+BD is ~50k.

I doubt there's an interesting answer. Someone just imputed the wrong number. Maybe left out a retailer on accident.

I think the anime really appeals to more then just fans of boys love. I mean I absolutely love fanservice and harem anime. Yet Yuri on Ice was still one of the best shows last season it was really interesting, funny and the characters extremely likeable. I'm not surprised at all it sold so well. To be honest they never really seemed anything more then really good friends. Chris was the only real openly gay character in the show.

Wasn't figure skating being lame as hell the entire plot ofBlades of Glory?
Of course it did well. It didn't meander about for three seasons about a relationship and then make a last second pivot to appeal to fujioshi. That's admirable. If you're going to do it, that's probably the best way. "Here's the relationship, and here's what we're gonna do with it." Even if I personally find figure skating hella lame. |

Speaking as a gay anime fan, it outrages me the way fanservice fans always act like they're so horribly treated by anime fandom but then they go and crap on shows like Yuri On Ice and go into homophobic hysterics any time an anime for women and LGBTQ fans becomes even remotely popular.

So do we think the BD will have some scenes "fixed" to make up for the some of the rushed animation that originally aired? The figure skating looks so great when it's done well, it would really do this series justice.

Definitely, you can already see some of the fixes to Phichit's short program, the animation looks much much better in episode 11 than it did in episode 6, they basically redrew the whole thing. Some cuts from Eros were also improved over the course of the series. I'm too lazy to go for screencaps now, but Yuuri's ending pose looked mighty derpy the first two times, but they fixed it by the Cup of China |
