This episode was really a home run with me. So many great lines and scenes.
How greasy must that little kid be to have such a reflective forehead?
I'm looking forward to watching Tohru rampage through the office next week.

This show... This goddamned show. I have NEVER been in love with a show this much since FOREVER. Seriously, where do I begin? The sincere, heartfelt nature of the show? The dynamic characters? The excellent comedy? The juxtaposition of the fantasy and the real? The clever social commentary?
...and this latest episode. Good god. Kanna was already high up on my list, but this past episode has pushed her up to one-of-my-all-time-favorite-characters status. She's kind, considerate, clever, manipulative, adorable and best of all, BADASS. Again, I can't help but love soft-spoken characters who can put up a good fight and stand up for those around her and Kanna just hits that sweet spot PERFECTLY. She's like a combination of all the best aspects of Hitoha, Renge and Yuki.
Jeez... I will buy the SHIT out of Kanna merchandise if they actually bother to produce any.

The first half of the episode was so sweet that I had to rewatch it again today. Kanna was so cute I wanted to hug her!!! They totally look like a family when they were shopping.
Seriously, this show is a big surprise!

Episode 1 was everything I despised about anime. Episode 2 spiked in quality and has remained at that level since. What is with shows this season doing this?
As for the dub, "But I'm a woman,” comes off as stale and odd in dialogue. It shows a sign of general denial to homosexuality as opposed to the straightforward “But I'm not into women," that singles out Tohru. I do think it should be changed due to the evolving characters but I don't know what the line should be. The best I can think of is more of Kobayashi shoving Tohru away without bringing gender into the equation at all.

Sounds like whoever changed that line is unfamiliar with anime. It's a common response.

It also happens to be the line as subtitled, and as far as I can tell, exactly what she says in Japanese.
Subtitled as "I'm a woman, though"
Line as far as I can hear, "Watashi wa onna nan da ga"

But is Kobayashi "not into" women? In general she has given the impression that she is not really bothered either way, and she indeed has an interest in maids, enough to strip a woman.

I got a similar impression from Kobayashi, I would say she seems to bothered to care what she feels sexually. I took Kobayashi to pretty much be Pansexual, she doesn't really give a damn what you are or what you're into she'll like you if she likes you and she won't if she doesn't.

Kobayashi definitely cares for tohru, but I don't think it's sexual attraction, she doesn't seem to have much of a sex drive period, but I think that's fine, caring for someone without wanting to bang them isn't a bad thing. Even her maid obsession seems to be more that she sees english maids as kind of the her ideal person (refined, polite, etc) rather than a sexual fantasy like maids are usually portrayed in anime.
On the other hand I love how Tohru always has Kobayashi on her mind, the part in ep 5 where she imagines them tapping on a wall together (mating sounds lol) had me cracking up. Her butting into the magicians trick at the end was also hilarious "I can do things humans can, like teleportation!"
I'm also surprised that the manager got off with his life, I was expecting Tohru to be waiting for him outside at the end of the day ready to introduce him to his own personal hell heh.

Yeah I really liked that Kobayashi just accept that she's happy Tohru is around, usually in these kinds of situation the two lead "hate" being forced together and it get really repetitive quickly.

I totally forgot what "otaku mode" Makoto looked like, and spent a good half-minute thinking "who's this joker?" when they showed up at his house.

Fafnir reminding Tooru about the short livespan of humans remind me of almost the identical theme in Spice and Wolf, although it's kind of..ahem....impossible for the story in Kobayashi to develop in the same way. I hope they explore this theme further, and not just leave it as a secondary afterthought.

That ending was perfect. The face Tohru makes had me dying.

Actually the manga kind of explores that erm "route". You know, magic and stuff (and another dragon even). So in that context the "I'm a woman though" line is really setting up Kobayashi to examine her relationship with Tohru along those lines.

While there is a lot I like about this series, like the invisible harassing of Kobayashi's boss by Tohru, I find the sexualization of everything as both out of place and annoying.
