I think those 'incentives' are there more in order to justify the price. The BDs/DVDs usually also feature some special video footage and artbooks and often stickers or some other form of merchandise. I don't think that's a bad thing - it's like buying the collectors edition. And again, if those little incentives are enough for people to want to buy something so expensive then I think that only proves that they do really care for the anime and stuff related to it. I get what you're saying but if people wouldn't like the show itself then they sure as hell wouldn't be buying the discs just for the little extras. |

The event tickets are incentives for people to buy and without a doubt lead to higher sales. It remains to be seen if Yuri!!! on Ice's very high volume 1 and 2 sales are in part due to people buying multiple copies of the DVDs in order to get more event tickets. I would think people buying multiple copies would pertain more to DVD as opposed to BD sales due to the price difference. In some cases, it's actually worth buying multiple volumes if you want a high chance of getting into an event as resale prices of the event ticket codes on Y!J can get upwards of 1/2-3/4 of the DVD price (sometimes more). So people buy several copies, keep the code, and resell or turn in extra DVDs.
In the case of Love Live!, especially Sunshine!!, Volume 1 was half the price of subsequent volumes because it had one episode. It wasn't AS expensive to buy multiple copies of the discs to get those event tickets so Volume 1 sales saw a HUGE spike compared to later volumes. |

Home releases often come with bonuses and extras. Event tickets are just one example., others include CDs, bonus disks, and other supplimentary materia. Home video releases aren't made for everyone, they're made for the hardcore collectors who drive the market. And hardcore fans are going to be the ones that care about going to events about their favorite show, nothing really wrong with that.
Saying a show has a large female fanbase is not the same as saying that it's only popular due to women. -Stuart Smith |

Good thing "large female fan base" wasn't what was said, then. |

Actually your premonition is right, right now the big drop of YOI will or may start between Vol.3 to Vol.4 considering the recent Avex Ban. YOI along with Osomatsu is Avex's highest international brd/dvd volume sellers and banning the import will mostly affect it. |

Oricon's estimates supposedly do not count international sales, so their numbers will not be affected. |

If you're still curious, vol3 week1 had an 8% drop. (Which isnt too far off (only a little lower) from what stalker predicted if it had similar underestimation to v1 and v2) |
