Sorry to break it to you, but I've been into BL before it was called BL and before the word "fujoshi" even existed. I bought my first yaoi doujinshi in the '90s and watched (and hated) Gravitation as it aired. I just used quotation marks because I don't like how the word is used in the English language fandom and I usually try to avoid it. (Btw it is kind of cute that you call something like Super Lovers "hardcore"...) Last edited by SHD on Thu Feb 23, 2017 5:18 am; edited 1 time in total |

I didn't check the archived threads myself so I don't know how true it is, but it might be a plausible explanation for Joker Game's (admittedly very surprising) success in this poll. edit: iirc Joker Game average 8k, not 7. Okay... maybe it's time that someone conducted this poll among people who are actively involved in the industry and they have some level of experience as to be able to make an accurate distinction between the "good", "bad", "boring" and "fun". Maybe then those polls will earn some level of credibility.
For me, yes, a fujoshi, YOI was something really fun. It had been a long time since I got so excited about a series, and I felt like finally, something I was looking and asking for many years among the anime series I was watching, took form. Not a stereotyped and cliche BL story, whose service is only to titilate you (like porn does), but a fun series that actually makes some effort with its characters and their development. The fujoshi audience is so STARVED for something remotely decent, it was completely understandable that something like YOI would blow their mind. BUT, that doesn't automatically make YOI a good series, it just makes it a fun series. I enjoyed it but I will accept almost any kind of critisism about it, because most of the bad things I've heard about it I too think are true. The ending was very dissappointing, the huge cast ultimately wasn't able to have much meaningful interactions during only 12 episodes and trying to squeeze in all the perfomarnces resulted in some really awful and cringeworthy animation sequences. The character development also had potential but it was mostly left to the audience's imagination, just like the nature of their relationships. You know how I think YOI was really made? After the three first episodes were written, the writers just logged into tumblr and said: "Let's see what would the audience want to watch next? Let's make a list and check everything out in order!" You can't convince me it happened elseway. It explains everything. |

I'm fairly sure they were going the "show not tell" approach, which is why a lot was left up to the audience to interpret. During the talk show before the all-night viewing, I forget who it was but I believe it was either Kubo sensei or Suwabe who mentioned that they will never give a straight answer if asked questions regarding Yuri and Victor's relationship (eg. did they kiss? etc). I'm also quite sure that the first three episodes were written before the series aired. While later episodes of the series were definitely changed, I'm fairly certain nearly the first half were planned out before the series began airing. The last episode we know for sure was changed to include Stefan as a commentator. It was mentioned during the talk show that they changed it to include him and Suwabe had to come back into the studio to record the lines where Victor interacted with Stefan. |

Its not that confusing when people remember disk sales are the minority of a fandom. Most fans simply watch a show on TV. Buying BDs are for hardcore collectors only. or people who want bonuses like event tickets. Disk sales are not representative of a shows overall fandom or popularity. -Stuart Smith |

The talks of those who're saying that the poll is rigged or random shz lmao is too dem high, Japanese girls hacking an online poll system wtf(??). Ofcourse they didn't bother to read the whole thing, I mean Tokyo Anime Awards will be held this year at Ikebukuro ... I dunno about everyone's Japanese knowledge but it's like the opposite isle of Akifapbara so it's understandable why d list's full of rainbows... and imagine all those TAA poster ads in every corner of Ikeburo informing every fangirl passerbys, never do selfie and use Twitter to inform evry fandoms to vote.
Seems like the Americans are questioning the Japanese anime standards, it must be a shocker for dem y Joker Game ranks high when they dropped it after 2 eps, I dunno JG is pretty popular with women in Japan just look at those nsfw fics and DJ's(no I will not link it).
I agree bruh, overall investment of the franchise(promotions, affiliates, merchs etc) +social media power is the true representative of a show's popularity not just the disk sales. In this case it's understandable why YOI's popularity is a no joke, a whole prefecture is promoting it and it dominates the social media rankings, slash all those etc sales. |
