Why? He's a pretty good director. I hope you aren't counting purposefully b-movie stuff like Machete as the only type of film he could ever make in his career, ignoring everything he's made that isn't like it, and assuming this must be like that.

Desperados isn't pretty much Spy Kids. He can make more than one type and tone of film.
