I hope you people realize that it is nowhere confirmed to be produced by Madhouse. In fact there is a good chance it might have been given to someone else much like the Mahouka movie was. So yeah let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Aa, I didn't even know Mahouka was given to a different studio. Just knew the movie existed lol.

Still, doesn't hurt to hope.

Guys you do realize that Madhouse has no say in whether or not any of their shows get sequels, right? The fact that they have gone so long without sequels isn't because they don't want to do sequels it is because the production committees for the shows they did didn't want to go through the whole process of making a sequel(do keep in mind that a sequel season has to go through the same process as making a new show, in essence each season of anime is more or less its own show in terms of getting them funded and made).

In fact very few studios have any say on sequels, because very few studios are on the production committees. Only a very select few like say KyoAni have that kind of pull(and honestly KyoAni really only has this because they are also a book publisher nowadays).

Good news in a year that just keeps giving good news (in anime at least). Look forward to more.

@relyat08 I can't even find a listing for the second season anywhere (yet) so I don't know if there is any way to verify it yet.

Some of the sakugabooru guys are saying on twitter that they don't think it is Madhouse. But that's also just speculation.

Well I am surprised, I enjoyed S1 but didn't think it would have garnered enough follower to justify an S2.

Im pretty sure each volume of Overlord average over 10k per volume. There was never any doubt in terms of its popularity.

@Kon'Doriano Can you ever just pass over shows/sequels of shows that don't please you or at least not phrase your denunciations in the most provocative way? Your shtick has gotten tiring.

Pardon me for being anymore blunt than I already am but, that's not happening. If I got something negative to say, I say it whether you like it or not.

Now that that's out of the way, hmm I wonder what Ainz will be up to in this sequel. This truly is a pleasant surprise for the fans wouldn't you agree? Cheers to them. Prosit!

@Kon'Doriano I don't mind negative criticism, I just ask that it be constructive or at least politely framed. Calling it trash tells us nothing about why you found it lacking (or the rest of Madhouse's output since they "stop[ped] producing quality shows", whenever that was) and could have easily been communicated with a "I didn't care for the show but that is nice for the fans".

Awesome. Now if season 2 has an actual plot, we'll be in business.

It would be kind of absurd for madhouse to not take this on since they're the ones that made the two recap movies which are basically promotion for the next season so it'd be weird if they did a promotion for something that another studio would handle, that's why I think madhouse are the ones that are gonna produce this too.

I do not get where people got the stupid idea that Madhouse does not make sequels. They made a bunch of sequels to their shows including some famous ones like Black Lagoon, Galaxy Angel and Chihayafuru.

The only studio that actually can be blamed for not doing sequels is Brain Base who only made sequels to Natsume and 1 or 2 other shows for all its history.

But you see, I wasn't critiquing. I merely showed my reaction and I do that however I see fit (without going too far...for obvious reasons). It's an instinctual habit, nothing more. Can we leave this behind us now? I don't want to further engage in a conversation irrelevant to the thread's topic (partially my fault but whatever).

This. Can we please stop with this stupid and baseless meme?
They made a bunch of 2nd seasons, some anime they made multiple seasons include Hajime no Ippo (this one even got 3 seasons), Chihayafuru. Diamond no Ace, Kaiji, Black Lagoon...

Regarding overlord, seems like 2nd season was inevitable. Masses love this SAO-like anime (even though SAO is masterpiece when compared to overlord, and that says everything Very Happy )

^There are a lot of shows that are popular and should "inevitably" get a second season. That's just not how the industry works. I roll my eyes even harder at people who say things like that. "such and such was so popular, of course it'll get a second season". As if that was the only determining factor. Take a look through history to see all of the popular shows that haven't gotten continuations for one reason or another. It's a pretty long list!

Just because they have done sequels, and do now, doesn't negate the fact that a lot of their work didn't get sequels over the last decade or so. There was a solid stretch there where very few projects contracted out to Madhouse received sequels, or conclusions at least, by them. Black Lagoon still counts for that as the second season, and even the OVA series, does not conclude the story at all, Chihayafuru is the same case. I can make you a list if you'd like. People got this "stupid" idea because a lot of their favorite shows by Madhouse weren't getting sequels. It's not that hard to figure out. Rolling Eyes

In the end, a decent number of people know at this point that Studios rarely have a say in this kind of thing anyway, unless they happen to be on the production committee. And there are a billion reasons that something might not get a continuation that is outside of their control, like a lack of source material, production committees squabbling, etc. It's just an interesting statistic that a lot of people have noticed. Hence many people calling it a "curse", I imagine. I, for one, wish people would stop whining about it while totally misinterpreting it and taking it at face value.
