Rather curious (and not in a confrontational way, just to be clear) what this is referencing, if I may ask? I know Anno left to start Khara* and seem to remember some bad blood between the two, but I don't remember hearing about that. *Edited for accidentally writing Trigger. Anno isn't involved with Trigger - that was a younger cohort of ex-Gainax folks IIRC (Hiroyuki Imaishi, Yoh Yoshinari, etc.); Anno went on to form Studio khara. The only pachinko merchandise rumor I can think of that sounds anything like what redranger is saying was that several years back, Gainax licensed a Royal Space Force (Wings of Honneamise) pachinko machine, and this caused a major rift with some of the older ex-Gainax folks, since Honneamise was always supposed to be a pure artistic thing for them. Any of their other properties were up for merchandising, but that one was supposed to be special. But I hardly think that "ruined" Gainax - if the rumor I saw was correct, the reason they even did that is because financially Gainax was already in a rough spot, and it wasn't just a blip - they didn't have a lot of prospects. It's been so many years since I saw that claim I don't even know if I could find a source for it again... |

See, all I can picture right now is a Moyoco Anno-illustrated 4koma of her husband kicking a Nadia pachinko machine and screaming, "give me back my damn money" at it. Then, the final panel is the Gainax building with a "GOING OUT OF BUSINESS" sign. |
