As I said elsewhere this will at least be interesting, we'all all end up pleasantly surprised or get to watch a glorious trainwreck.

I am kinda excited for casting too.

Just don't be bad. No need for OP to have a rough time of it in the west.

Oh, please no... How about funding an anime remake that isn't trash compared to the manga. I wouldn't be surprised if this live action thing ends up being better than whatever Toei puts out, lol.

I got a bad feeling about this!

I really don't think the cartoonish nature of the show is going to well, even if it's on Netflix or HBO. Then of course I could expect there being an issue regarding the sexualization of the women (especially Nami). But what makes me the most worried is if they take a different approach and make One Piece a teenage angst situation like they have done with other recent adaptations (Death Note, Jem, Power Rangers).

I'll be surprised if it even manages to get past the pilot.

The only pirate Anime series that would work well in a live-action adaptation is Captain Harlock of course you would still need a high budget since the series takes place in space and all but it'll definitely turn out well given the right circumstances. Unlike One Piece which is so far out there that it's virtually impossible to make a decent adaptation of it. Sad

They should be able to hypothetically pull off a live-action One Piece show without a hitch. The 90's Hercules, Xena and Jack of All Trades are proof of that. [Not to mention the recent Black Sails.] It's just a matter of how serious the producers are about doing it right, and not treating it like another red-headed stepchild, just because there are no fooking superheroes in it.

Have you seen the trailer for the new Tick? Again, it can be done.

Indeed, no matter what it will be a day to remember.

Personally, I don't see it ending well. They got a ALOT of hurdles to overcome.

I thought the One Piece podcast said it best, there's no shame in being cauitionsly optamistic

If it's good than YAY something good and new, if it's bad it won't change the manga and it'll just be a footnote joke like the 4kids dub.

Haven't listened to that so I got to check it out. I really want to go well too but I just can't see it happening.

Why?!

Why make a live action show of One Piece?

That's like a live action Looney Tunes! As in, real actors in suits playing Bugs and Daffy. It makes no sense.

You'd think it'd be obvious by now that adapting certain anime franchises into live-action anything can get messy. Guess not.

Hopefully this project gets forgotten...

who asked for this?

Oda himself wanted this.

Also, didn't realize ITV studios would be a part of this. In Britain they're a big TV company with several huge channels so I'm surprised to hear they'll be involved in some way.
