This episode length is appropriate because a lot of anime/CGI series will be around 18:30-20 minutes when you omit the OP/ED. One thing that I think should be shown more in the official credits (I haven't watched any of this show's episodes yet) is the people doing the subtitles. They are so hard-working.

I watched the first episode and it was awful...does it get better or it's the same pile of bad cgi and bad story?
