True, but to be fair Jyushi as a whole has a mouth that doesn't move though; often just a big grin.
I think the saber marionette style of Choromatsu and Totoko made me laugh the most, though, just because that style is so iconic yet so ugly

You might still. spoiler[Rabbit's power is that he can control the movements of the corpses of those he killed, and Boar counts as that. I presume there are combat abilities of Boar we haven't yet seen that we'll see later when we see more of Rabbit in the fray.]

Yeah, that's what I'm holding out for, though it won't be the same as spoiler[her having her actual conscience and thoughts. ]

Perhaps this line of thinking is being driven by the crowd that says that classic anime was the best, but new anime sucks.

I liked Infini-T Force despite not being familiar (other than by reputation) with the various sentai series its heroes are drawn from. Pretty kickass action scenes. No matter how often I see it in anime, I never fail to chuckle when I watch an older male character get wounded when a pretty girl dismisses him as a "geezer."

This deserves some kind of award for Excellence In Snark. Very Happy

Decided to give Juni Taisen a try. Well, that was certainly entertaining, in a way. But I can't help but feel that the pitch for the show was basically "Okay, we're gonna just copy Fate, but like, without the well-written part." "Great, sounds like we have a real winner on our hands."

Juni Taisen: Zodiac War really does have a lot of potential, I hope they can keep it up.

Was already planning to wait for the simuldub of Black Clover, once that got announced by Funi, since that's how I've generally enjoyed my shonen action shows the most, but it sounds like maybe that's an extra good thing, heh.

Same, I still enjoyed it thanks to the action and what it was doing even though the only ones I've got some familiarity with are Casshan/Casshern (from the 90s short series and Sins), Gatchaman, and the US re-edit of the way later version of Tekkaman done as Teknoman, so I don't know anything about this "classic" Tekkaman.

Hah yeah, that moment, even though it's commonly done is usually funny, also given the style it especially reminded me of how it'd happen in Tiger & Bunny lol.

Damien's hair did indeed make me LOL though. Laughing

Seriously, though, listen to this before you write off TsukiPro. (It isn't SolidS, it's one of the other groups.)

Tried out Konohana Kitan on a whim and I thought it was a cute watch. I feel that characters are always important in this type of show and so far here, I'm liking them. It was also an easy enough watch that had me feeling good inside and that's always a good thing. I'll be following this one to relax myself for the rest of its run.

In the end, I can't see this show really succeeding for someone who isn't already invested in its various sentai protagonists.

That's because you lack imagination. While I did recognize Tekkaman and Casshan, I'm not exactly a fan of sentai shows. But this was charming (probably not the word the creators were going for).

Now Rebecca gets it.

Rebecca wrote:
The whole thing reminds me of the sort of games my sisters and I used to concoct – you know, the kind where the Barbies teamed up and attacked the plastic animals and the My Little Ponies and She-Ras had to work together with the animals to stop Barbie's evil plans. (We were weird kids.)

Not at all. My Barbie (hand-me-down from my sister) was a Wonder Woman-esque heroine who battled against the evil Ken, of the military-industrial complex. Smile

Anyway, I only tried this on a lark, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I think my only complaint (aside from Emi, who I hope becomes less cranky) is Takeshi's stringy hair which looks like he hasn't washed it in this lifetime (sorry, my hairstyle snark is not up to Rebecca's level), and the 8" cuffs on his jeans.

To a lesser degree I also enjoyed Juuni Taisen. I'm not sure yet what to say about it that hasn't been said, except dat tail! Shocked How many koosh balls had to die to make that?

As with James, Konohana Kitan nearly put me to sleep. I loves me some kitsune, but I just couldn't connect with any of the characters except the medicine seller (who I think is just a dogman, or maybe a sable - he didn't have tanuki markings at all). I think my slate is already overbooked, so this will probably not make the cut.

@ #861208: Thanks for posting that link. One of my chronic complaints about boy band shows is that they rarely if ever harmonize, as if they're worried fans will get upset if their boy doesn't always get the melody line. So it was nice to hear some actual harmonies in the vocals. And I liked the songs too.

I watched Tsukiuta, but that doesn't mean I'm at all up-to-speed with TsukiPro. Any more than about 6 group members overwhelms my ability to tell them apart without a cheat sheet, and I haven't yet found an idol show I cared enough about to make one. And these character designs are kind of flat somehow. But I'll probably watch it anyway, just because.

Konohana Kitan. Why hello there, Fox Saber; didn't know you had that particular alternate form. Your forceful and pushy personality is at great odds to the serene demeanour you normally display. And what are you doing working in a Japanese inn?

All jokes aside, I liked the first episode; it was just as fluffy as I had been promised. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) But the overall pacing was noticeably off. As in, we barreled through the character introductions, skipped through the homesickness, hurried through the training, rushed through Yuzu making herself useful and saving the day, and even scrambled through the scenery porn. And yet, we still got treated to three bath scenes. I mean, what?

So yeah, the pacing has issues. But the rest of the show is just as lovely as advertised. Definitely will be watching it to the end.

Every season I need a show like Konohana Kitan that shows up early in the week and makes things more calm and sweet for just 20 minutes. I'm glad to see I can check that off my list.

The rest of the shows from Tuesday and Wednesday don't really interest me.

I made a list of all the anime I'm interested in this season. Monday through Thursday is sparse, only 6 shows and I might be dropping 2. The Friday through Sunday stretch is insane, 20 shows I'm looking forward to with only a few maybes. I guess at least I can spread those shows over the early part of the week. But for me there's no way I can say that the season is bad because I can't see it possibly being that.

Having now read all the reviews so far of new series this season, none of them sounded very inspiring. I was hoping my initial take on this season was wrong, but it doesn't look that way based on the reviews.

That's a dumb generalization, as that is absolutely not the case for me, and I doubt it applies to ChibiKangaroo either. I watch a lot of new anime, but nothing so far has grabbed my attention this season. I don't yet see any show with the uniqueness of Made in Abyss or Princess Principal. Did I miss something?

Most of the most anticipated shows premiere this Friday or Saturday, so I think we should have a good idea about how good the season by then.

Yeah, I have no problem with somebody stating that there is nothing so far that's grabbed them. Presumably they've at least read reviews to base their opinions on. It's the early dismissal of the entire season when so many shows haven't even premiered yet that is irksome.

I'm always happy to say I had a bad first impression if something great comes along. I was just saying I've got a bad feeling about this season based on what I've watched, the reviews, and the lists of what is coming. It probably hurts that we just had a Summer season that was surprisingly strong, so Fall has a lot to live up to now. I think my commentary though is less about "this season sucks hurr hurr" and more about how I think it's a return to the "meh" status quo recycled material after some unique highlights from Summer.

Like i said, Ancient Magus intrigues me and it has potential. Other than that, there's a bunch of retreads. I'll watch the Yuki Yuna thing but that is a "par for the course" type of show (the original was entertaining but never maximized on its potential - how do they introduce a magical girl without the use of her legs and not mine that aspect for all its worth?). I'll probably also check out cute fox girls doing cute fox girl things, but again, that's just mindless fluff as far as I can tell. The other hot topics thus far have been Twilight/Underworld Edo style and Hunger Games with zodiac animals. Somewhat interesting just due to the weirdness, but ultimately uninspired from my view.

I'm not saying the season won't have some positive surprises though, just commenting plainly on what I see thus far.
