I know, he potentially could have been asked but certainly would refuse because of deadlines and well Mashima is on vacation since Fairy Tale ended. This is my only logical way to interpret this, since Mashima is good but nowhere near enough for awards or whatever this is...

If you want to compare his work to the big leagues, Mashima produces the cheap house brand of shonen manga. Its what he's known for. He has lingered far longer than many mangaka, there is always that. Give him a reward for that.
