We're living in a weird era when I see Ancient Magus' Bride listed with an October 30th premiere and my immediate thought is, "huh... seems like a long turnaround for the dub". Laughing

I could see this going on toonami. It is naruto with wizards and a rival who actually isn't a total grimdark edgelord

If it does air on Toonami, the ratings will most likely suffer since most people would've already seen the dubbed episodes on FUNimation.

About Dies Irae. Will the VA's use pseudonyms or aliases? Considering the kind of show is this.

I think its possible they are holding auditions for Ancient Magus Bride (plus some adaptive/creative choices to make re: localization, accents, etc...), so the later premiere date doesn't surprise me. It seems most simuldub directors will hire people they know will work well and are reliable for the quick turnaround (I'm sure creative/out-of-town casting is easier for a Blu-Ray release show).

The last simuldub I remember with auditions was My Hero Academia (they could have been others later on, I just wouldn't know). Ancient Magus Bride seems "big enough" that it wouldn't surprise me. They know its a highly anticipated series, and many of their best-received dubs had a Western aesthetic (Baccano, Romeo x Juliet, Spice & Wolf), so I'm sure its going to get a lot of care.

Still pretty crazy that dubs are coming out that early at all honestly.

BBB&B’s coming around sooner then I thought, but I wonder what’s going on with the Ancient Magus Bride. I guess some of their casting choices might be tied up in other simuldubs that are finishing or Studio WIT is taking it’s time sending the materials. I hope the English characters have English accents, especially Elias.

As an Englishman I absolutely dislike it when they do that you can tell straight away they're putting an accent on and it's so off putting. In the Gosick dub they didn't give a character from England an accent thankfully. But I tried watching Negima dubbed on FUNiNow the other day and couldn't last 5 mins lol.

Wonder why they didn't announce Black Clover? Maybe it has to do with that all but confirmed rumor that it's going to be 51 episodes, that'd make it a year long project so they probably want to take their time.

Plus they're probably holding auditions for all of the characters.

The last time they left a simuldub premiere date unannounced was with Mob Psycho 100, so maybe they're also working with LA talent? Either that or it's going to be on Toonami.

I hope they're not using LA talent exclusively, those dubs always tend to be worse in my opinion.

Testament of Sister Devil is LA right? because I watched the first 2 eps on FUNiNow and the dub wasn't great... Sounded like a borderline hentai dub.

Funi VAs generally don't seem to use aliases, they didn't for Seven Mortal Sins and that was pretty much 100% pornographic. Probably because they mainly work at Funi and they're not going to lose work at the company by being on one of their dubs.

How should I put it it... if Anita Neucar or the like... "I need a new car", I don't know why I have to spell that out but there it is.... shows up in the cast then yes, they're using pseudonyms. I don't see any likely ones in Seven Mortal Sins very small cast list but in Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid, there are a couple of possible names... some really fancy ones at that... and in Daimidaler, there was a noteworthy one who made it onto a commentary.

It's more a case of "generally, Funimation doesn't dub shows that require the cast to hide a name but some of them do have families and they'd rather have their children not learn about it.."

which was somewhat strange since Morgan Garrett uses her alias frequently for shows like that one

That's probably because LA has a lot more higher paying acting opportunities than Texas. In LA film, tv, video game, and cartoon gig are all higher paying than anime voice acting. This means that LA anime dubs are made up of people that either have a passion for anime or were unable to land the higher paying gigs.

In Texas the only big acting alternative besides anime voice acting is theater, which pays about the same amount. This means that anime dubbing companies in Texas can have access to most Texas-based actors.
