Hopefully something like Laputa. I miss the days when Miyazaki's movies had a plot.

Sounds interesting. Hopefull Goro can carry on his father's legacy, even though dad said not to. But we'll see.

Goro explicitely stated that this is not what he wants to do. His decision to explore CG anime was a deliberate choice because hand-drawn animation is already at a mature level and Goro is confident that he cannot ever reach his father's level of craftmanship, but with CG there are still new things to try and techniques to develop. I'm a big fan of both directors and after Poppy Hill and Ronja I have no doubt that Goro will continue to produce great works. It would be great if his new work is a Ghibli-produced feature film. |

It makes sense. He already did the quiet, reflective farewell with the Wind Rises. So if he really is bowing out this time, best to go out with something of a bang. It would also make for a nice book end to the Ghibli's beginning with Laputa. And good to see that Goro is going to continue foreword doing his own thing, he already has come a long away from Tales of Earthsea. |

Ah so that's the route he's going. It's a interesting point of direction but only time will tell where it's going to go. I've heard mixed reviews about Ronja but it's a start. CG is not an easy medium to master, especially when trying to simulate "realism" but it's getting there. 2D animation these days is not being considered a more artistic form reserved for certain works. But CG animation like Pixar, still has way to go in Japan to be fully excepted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm only going by an article talking about how CG isn't big in Japan and is still trying to find it's place. We're seeing CG animation now and more is coming. So there are changes coming. Some like it and some don't. But if Goro can pull off some successes then I wish him all the luck. |

So, what is "How Do You Live?"'s book about, for those of us not up on our classic Japanese literature? The description made it sound like a bit of period rumination, but apparently our hero learns How To Live from a wide journey of life experiences, which evidently take the form of Action (and I'm assuming Wind Rises-like dreams are the "Fantasy")....That's as much as I could Wiki. |

I am sure one these CGI in anime will hit its mark, and so far series like RWBY, Ajin, and Houseki no Kuni, will make it work. As long it doesn't repeat the mistakes like Berserk... |

They never stopped having them.
They've actually long since reconciled ever since that whole Earthsea fiasco. His father even helped with the production of Goro's second film Poppy Hill, which I don't think would have been the case had he actually felt that way. I'm excited to see where Goro goes next since I actually really enjoyed Poppy Hill, though Ronja's animation wasn't amazing (not terrible either). Kinda hoping he tackles traditional animation again, but it's also nice that he seems to be tackling his own different medium for storytelling, and who knows? Maybe this next one will be one of the genuinely great looking GC anime out there (they exist!). Also, this news has me super hyped. I really liked The Wind Rises and understand what it represented artistically for Miyazaki and was glad he made it, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eager to get one last action-adventure/fantasy from the man! Can't wait to hear more about it! The wait's gonna be pretty painful. |

I just wish it was something equivalent to the atmosphere of Mononoke-hime, but that's too much to ask during this day. That's my favorite Ghibli movie.
