Isn't there enough 80s wanking in media already? Family Guy's been doing it for over a decade, and even kids shows do it since they're written by middle aged people who want to add in stuff kids wont get for some reason.

It was already everywhere in the book (and was more or less aimed at people very nostalgic for the 80's), so it'd make sense it'd be in the movie too.

I think it's because nostalgic powering this movie. The main audience is those people, because they got the money.

Still it looks like action pack film which could be saving grace that book didn't have.

Also there a lot of copyright nightmares involved trying to get so many properties on one screen just for brief moment.
