Using it as an icon was probably just to attract the attention of people who think it does have lgbt themes and need their opinions to be validated which is pretty low of whoever made this.

I made the article and the first word in the headline is "Anime-Opted." This is actually far more telling about both reading comprehension and where people's buttons are that they completely glaze over a headline in favor of jumping on their soap box to complain about anyone possibly thinking Land of the Lustrous is a LGBT representation show, an interpretation that is completely valid given how particular people are about the proper pronouns used for the characters.

Neither do countries, guns, or naval warshps, yet we have anime with all those personified as teenage boys or girls. If the characters in LotL are asexual/genderless/sexless/whatever, that is a deliberate choice, not just a natural consequence of being rocks.

This "are the gems sexless" debate could just as easily be a Steven Universe discussion. Wink

Just gonna add that My Lesbian Experience With Lonliness is a fantastic read (even if you're not personally a lesbian, or lonely.) It's one of the few manga I've seen being discussed in mainstream media this year, and boy does it deserve it.
