The Ashita no Joe manga doesn't have a clear ending instead it is left ambiguous wheter Joe died or was just feeling completely satisfied with his fight, that is managed to put everything he had on it. I personally interpret it as a symbolic ending and not that he died in a literal sense (unlike Rikishii).
This show is a great translation of the emotions of the original manga into a new compact 13 episode package and like in the manga I felt tremendously strong emotions from experiencing it. Clearly among the top shows of the year (together with A Place Further than the Universe). It's for stuff like this series that I watch anime. |
