A Silent Voice hasn't gotten a release here yet because of the legal crap surrounding them using a song from The Who.

What? The Who is a British rock band, and A Silent Voice has already received a home video release in the UK. Why would a British song prevent the release of a movie in America?

Music licensing in the US is just that messed up.

I wish I could import some of Anime Limited's stuff, but I have no idea where to check and see if a BD player is region free and I doubt mine is (Magnavox MBP5120F)

Hmm. I’m still not quite convinced that the problem is the music, but whatever. It still sucks.

And yea, just about any BD player you buy from any vender will be region locked. I got mine on eBay. Ones with Ethernet only are about $99, and ones with built in wifi are about $40-50 more expensive. Some sellers might even accept a discount if you make an offer. It’ll pay for itself in no time if you import UK aniplex BDs. Also stuff like A Silent Voice and Berserk ‘97 are nowhere to be found on BD here in the US.
I haven’t seen Rokka, and it wouldn’t surprise me if CR eventually streams the dub since they have several other audio options, then I might check it out.

Out of interest, how long has it been since a UK distributor commissioned a US dub themselves, as is the case here? Has such a happening occurred since the early days of Manga Entertainment?

One practice I’ve heard of — I’m not sure how common it is — is for the UK distributor (and possibly other English-speaking regions, like Australia/NZ) to contribute funding towards a US-produced dub. I recall Sentai saying this is the only way they could afford to dub Clannad, which originally came out sub-only, during the downturn of the late aughts / early teens.

Be honest, I never thought to see them dubbed this anime. Which is awesome never quite finished it when it first came out. Now I can try to watch this again.

Yeah.
