Is this really newsworthy? I mean, anime have been parodying Evangelion for more than a decade. There is really no point for an article about this if it has been done so many times before.

Yes, it is newsworthy mainly because of this: "Allegedly, a viewer wrote to staff after watching the anime's first episode and said that the premise of a boy, his father, and a robot reminded them of Evangelion. The comment spurred the staff into action on a collaboration with the classic mecha series."

Just because anime have been parodying Evangelion for more than a decade doesn't mean that articles about Evangelion parodies should just suddenly stop. There's still interest in decade-long parodies of anime. Otherwise, this article (along with the original Comic Natalie article) would've not been made.
