I watched several episodes of Gundam Build Divers and it looked like a nice show that would be easy to broadcast in the western market. Granted it is a show that is mainly made to sell Gundam models to kids but for the franchise that is important. I think Sunrise decided to dub it since a show about a VR game with action and cute animal characters is the type of show that has the potential to be popular.

with any luck it might get shown on Toonami.

If I were to guess, Build Divers getting a dub is part of an initiative to get younger people into Gundam, and it'll be pitched to kids television networks.

I thought there were regulations against airing kids shows in America that is so blatantly advertising merchandise. I don't see this ending up anywhere but online, like those Bushiroad card-game anime.

The only regulation I know about is for 3 hours of educational kids programming a week for broadcast channels but even for broadcast channels 165 out of 168 hours each week can potentially be used for extended length toy commercials. Also that regulation is only for broadcast channels since they use public airwaves so it doesn't apply to any of the cable channels.

Yeah a good example of this is the way Little Battler's Experience was changed over here, all the model kit boxes were replaced with boxes that were usually just a solid color with stripes on them. Same reason Yugioh gets its cards changed for every episode. I feel like the series will go straight to DVD/BD but it would be cool to see it on TV considering Hasbro is shopping Zoids Wild around.

I personally think that creating English dubs for the older Gundam releases could do great things for the franchise, if they're handled correctly. I doubt that will ever happen, though. It's a shame that so many of the classic releases are only available in subtitled form.

In ZZ Gundam's case, it's downright perplexing. Remember Gundam vs Zeta Gundam for the PS2? Several characters from ZZ Gundam were in it, with fully voiced English dialogue. Judau, Puru/Ple (however her name is spelled), Roux-Louka, and a few others (let's not forget Haman and one or two more villains) were all present. Back in 2004/2005, I thought ZZ was definitely coming out with a dub. Nope!

Seeing the UC saga fully realized in English is simply a pipe dream at this point. It will never happen, and garbage announcements like this only dig the knife deeper into the wound.

Couple of questions:

1. When the show shows Gundam/Mobile Fighters from G Gundam, are they gonna call them by their English or Japanese names? (hoping they call them by their English names since thats what grew up with).

2. Who do you think will be in it? (personally, I would like to see Stephanie Sheh as Sarah, Since she voiced Yui from Sword Art Online why have her voice another character who spoiler[turned out to be A.I.]).

Welp, didn't expect this, but I'm glad it's happening. Yes, I know, "they chose this one over the others!?". I'm already glad this is happening at all.

Agreed. Didn't see this coming, so it's pretty great that we're actually getting a new real dub for this, unlike the other two installments, even though of course I'd love to also have a dub for some of the other main shows that sadly went sub only, like Gundam X.

Yeah, I could see it either way, but I think straight to BD/DVD seems the most likely.

Oh cool, didn't realize Hasbro was actually trying. I'd love to see Zoids Wild get a dub and BD.
spoiler[Just wish they had actual cockpits like all the other Zoids series.]
I wish Viz could release their dub of Zoids Genesis if they actually finished it since we never got to see it thanks to Toonami/Toonami Jetstream getting pulled, despite knowing that some of the cast list exists thanks to the dub trailer that made it online.

Completely agree with you.

I think they'd sell quite well.

I quite agree. I know I'd have loved Turn A Gundam and Gundam X a lot more if they'd have gotten dubs.

Would have been awesome. I also think I would have enjoyed Turn A a lot more that way given how dialogue heavy it was, and I loved Gundam X so I would have loved to get to re-watch it with a dub.
