NEWS: Funimation Reveals Cast, Staff, Streaming for New 2019 Fruits Basket TV Anime

Trunks was hell on her vocal cords, that's one of the biggest reasons she didn't return.

Again, people saying Laura won't return forget she did come back for a cameo as Maka in Soul Eater Not! as well as Oichi from Sengoku Basara.

Troy Baker recently learned about new lines for his Tales Vespira character that his agent apparently didn't tell him about, a role he was enthusiastic about reprising.

That was three years ago, back in 2015. Name one Funimation role that Laura reprised for in 2016-2018. None? Okay, your point is moot. Time to move on.

How can they license it before it even airs?

Takaya obviously doesn't agree that Yuki should sound like a girl, which is why Hisakawa got axed along with the rest. This new voice cast is pretty much approved by Takaya herself before they're allowed on board.

I also don't believe Eric Vale would pitch up his voice just to sound more "feminine"; he's way more likely to do the exact same voice he did back in the day. Funimation rejected Daichi's vision of Yuki; and since it's likely that Eric is reprising, they won't have him voice match Nobunaga Shimazaki, either. After all, Eric's Yuki portrayal did come first; why would he reference off of Shimazaki when he could keep it consistent with his old performance?

Nah. As much as I like Laura, she ain't gonna come back, especially not for a simuldub. She dropped her role as Trunks as well, which is one of Funimation's biggest properties. Fruits Basket isn't nearly as popular as Dragonball, so I don't see it happening. I'll be happy enough if Alexis Tipton steps in to take Laura's place.

Anyways, I personally really liked the first anime of Fruits Baskets. I especially love the way it handled "Kyo the cat monster" arc at the end - pretty much brought me to tears. I'm still looking forward to the adaptation. While I don't love everything about the manga, there is still a lot I want to see animated and I'm looking forward to a full adaptation.

Since you said 2016, Sengoku Basara's crappy last season and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 were released during the Fall of that year so no, Soul Eater Not was not her last with them, it was those two.

I've heard differing accounts of whether part of Takaya's problem with the director was that he didn't use the VA's she wanted but I've also heard that the core cast were picked (or approved) by her.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that was their intention. I mean, Yuki should be Yuki no matter the language or VA.

I know Alexis is pretty much the de-facto Laura Bailey replacement, but I hope whoever they cast for Tohru they cast because they're right for the role and not because they sound like Laura.

At the end of the day, I'm OK with a new cast. It's going to sting a bit, especially on the dub side of things since the Furuba dub is one of the only ones of which I have fond memories, but I think it'll be manageable as long as the studio brings its A-game in terms of animation and directing.

If this was Cowboy Bebop, yes, I'd agree with the people who are saying they'll miss the English dub voice actors. I didn't really care for the English dub for Fruits Basket but I still liked the anime overall.

It's probably asking for too much for all of the manga to be animated.

I really doubt they can afford Laura Bailey for just this.
