One can only oppress people for so long, then they explode in anger and there is a lot of blood, fire and shouting. Governments always think they can make people behave. When people come to realize the government is their enemy, that is called patriotism.

Wow.. there disliking gays and there going full on mental mode. Now I get that maybe some less liberal goverments might want to keep "pro gay idea" out of public... but 10 years?
That what you give bank robbers and killers. Going so heavy on such a minor offence is a great way to create distrust and "might as well commit murder to cover this crime" attuide.... which no goverment wants. |

Actually robbing a bank can get you anywhere from 10-20 years depending on circumstances. Whereas killing someone can get you sent away for the rest of your life or put to death.
Given that China has been like this since the 1950's. And they just changed their constitution to allow their president to serve for life I don't expect this change to happen let alone change much. |

I think it's important to note that the major reason that companies like Disney, Warner Bros, and other family friendly film/television companies don't touch on the subjects of homosexuality and gay rights isn't because they're incredibly conservative. The reason is so that they can market their films in China.
I just want it to sink in that China is the main reason that we don't get homosexual representation in films aimed at the PG-13 or younger crowd. |

Communism is an economic system. The word you're looking for is "authoritarian," and it can show up in any country, regardless of how their economy works. If you happen to live in the U.S., or Brazil, this would be a good time to learn that distinction. I doubt anyone here supports jailing yaoi artists, so I probably don't need to chime in on that. But if you don't keep tabs on your government, such things could easily start happening closer to home. Probably not tomorrow, but that's the dangerous thing about oppression--it sneaks up on you, so you don't fight back until it's too late. |

And the country Hollywood, video game developers, and other media producers are most interested in pandering to and conforming to their standards these days. Fanboys can whine about DIablo Mobile all they want, but China is going to eat it up and make it a huge success.
We must be looking in different places because I see tons of liberals on the internet openly state how much they love communism and socialism, and how capitalism is the worst thing ever. |

As sad as this is, I expected nothing less from that country. With their shitty laws they are stuck in the 20th century and they probably will for a few more hundreds of years. At least the West is making progress in all fields

There are like 2 or 3 posts in the whole thread saying that. I hardly think that's a representative example of this website, let alone the internet. And if you seriously think Western liberals/progressives hate Communism, what kind of liberals do you hang out with? Because man, I'd love to meet them. |
