I'm an actual socialist and even I know this will be nothing but pure self-serving remolding of an icon of the past (who actually had very many good points about the often inhumanity of capitalism and never exploited or killed anyone. That was all his self-proclaimed "disciples" with their bastardizations of his ideals) as a mouthpiece for an elite class of oligarch bureaucrats who are about as leftist as Donald Trump.

I find this vague assertion acceptable only if one also accepts the equally vague assertion that Adam Smith's ideology or capitalism in general lead to millions of people dying. Let's not be hypocritical over which vague assertions we find compelling.

As interested as I am in the story of Marx, I don't think I would ever go to a Chinese animation project to learn more about him. Slightly curious to see how different their version ends up though.

I feared this day might come. Not too long ago, people were concerned about Anime promoting Nazi's. Now, we literally got a romanticism of Communism by the Chinese government that say, "Hey, kids. This is good!"
Dark days are ahead for anime my friends...
We as a community need to do what we can and say, "No!"

I'm sure this won't be propaganda of some kind |
Since communism stresses everyone owning property and the lack of private property, I wonder if Bilibili plans on sharing this with as many foreign countries via simulcasting. |
I'm willing to bet that the Chinese government wants that to happen.
Don't be surprised soon we hear that it was Dubbed or Subtitled in multiple languages, especially Japanese and in English.

This is hilarious! Who would have imagined Karl Marx looked so bishie?
If you're worried that this will be popular with kids, relax. This is so obviously propaganda, and it's not nearly "anime" enough. Wait 'till the sequel in which Karl Marx is reincarnated into another world with a smart phone or something...

*sigh*
In before lock.
But seriously, propaganda piece or not, Marx himself was never about starving Ukrainians or threatening western nations with nuclear weapons just because "capitalism = evil" Even Marx conceded that capitalism had its benefits to society. He just wanted to see people be treated fairly in a mature and respectful manner, which was next to impossible during his lifetime.
To continue to demonize Marx because of our 20th century grudges towards communism is only playing politics. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we're only continuing the demonization of Marx and communism in general only out of respect towards our elders.

Wasn't Marx notoriously anti-Semitic and racist?

I'd like to watch this.
Fascinating how closed minded people can be. Imagine an anime about Jesus and people start slating Christianty about the inquisition and every other genocidal, homophobic and sexist acts commited by Christians. Actually theres already quite some homophobia on here anyway.

Depends on whether you are reading pro-Marx or an anti-Marx writer.
Putting aside whether Marx was a "good guy" or a "bad guy" (it's not like even most of self-professed marxists have read him, let alone detractors), it's really ironic considering how far China's policy currently is not just from Marx's ideas, but the popular understanding of Communism in general.

It doesn't matter what your stance is on Marxism, this series will definitely be biased and twist the ideologies to make the Communist Party look better.
This is probably goimg to be a similar situation to that with Sun Yat-Sen. The Chinese look up to him as a great revolutionary, but the Communist Party twists his Three Principles of the People with their own interpretation.

I'd even be willing to watch It If it would have been made as an historic biography of Marx, but it's so obvious (by reading the article) that it's going to be a blatant propaganda tool of the Chinese communist party to further its ideology on the people.
Some comments here are hilarious, I wonder if some of the users would be so open and accepting about an animated show (in the same vein as this) on the life and ideologies of someone like Giovanni Gentile or Filippo Tommaso Marinetti ... I bet they wouldn't.
Also this is not an anime and shouldn't be associated with the medium just because It kinda looks like one.
