Certainly there's no qualms about showing pubic hair, but in some of the magazines I've collected (ahem!), all parts of male and female genitalia are censored. Just to be clear, I'm talking about mainstream Japanese porn magazines, not manga. I also have a few Japanese magazines from the 1990's which mostly included western female porn stars and nude models. Most photos used non-explicit shots, mostly only showing pubic hair. Other shots have all female genitalia censored. Sure you can make out what it is, but it's like looking through frosted glass.
This is probably true, as well as Japanese consumers wanting Japanese models and porn stars. However in the couple of 1990's magazines I have, there are advertisements for subscription services selling uncensored US adult magazines (Hustler, Penthouse, Cheri etc), which seemed to be shipped directly from the US. Not sure if Japanese customs stopped these shipments or not. |
