Part 1 - Illustrated Child Pornography, no matter what you may think of it, is not made by harming children.

Part 2 - So the court decided to forbid even the visualization of porn involving consenting adults?

Part 3 - Possession of Real Child Pornography is really, really bad. But I do have to ask: Since he simply possessed it, rather than making it, is 10 years a penalty worth giving, rather than therapy? I don't care about the blowback or people feeling triggered by my question, I have to ask.

Edit: Of course, Sexual Abuse, in all its forms, is one of the most serious crimes, and should be punished heavily, and without mercy.

Did some clean up. Don't come into the discussion to simply poke at people or try and stir the pot.

As for the "discussion" at hand I think many people need to read the article a bit closer. The issue of whether or not anime drawings are considered porn or not, or the girls being "real" or not, does not matter in this case. We can all debate that tired old discussion until the cows come home but it won't matter. Per the article he was told he was "forbidden from viewing any pornographic material as part of the terms of his supervised release" from prison. People can split hairs all they want but he was convicted in regards to child porn and told not to view ANY pornographic material period. It could've been hentai, a playboy, a skinamax movie at 1am, or anything in between. He violated the terms of his parole. End of story. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

The word choice of "viewing" seems too open to loopholes; shouldn't it have been something like "consuming?" There's audio-only erotica out there, and I just found an Esquire article called "Here's How PornHub is Making Porn Work for the Blind." Then there's the sense of touch - how about using a sex doll while blindfolded?

It occurs to me that it may actually be in his interest to keep him fed and sheltered in prison for longer, as Cave explained:

As for people talking about the 10 year sentence... I know someone who has the same sentence for a similar crime and can say that the punishment is worth it. But what really bothers me is knowing that this person is NOT getting any help. They're just stuck in a prison cell somewhere. I don't think there's any psychiatric treatment being given to this person. Worse off is that in a few years, this person will be out of jail and with their family having disowned them will likely end up homeless. There's no help whatsoever. There's nothing being done for these people at all. Not to mention that the sex offenders registration makes it impossible to get a job and very, very difficult to even have a place to live. Even after serving their time, there is nothing for these people. It's likely they're just going to commit the crime again, just like in this case.

When I was in England and was looking for references of gothic lolita fashion, one of my searches auto-triggered a "Just Stop" warning from Google about child pornography. Razz

I just switched my vpn to London for a moment, but even after trying everything I could think of relating to gothic lolita fashion, I didn't find the trigger. What keywords did you use?

Oh yeah, England. Because of their unreasonable laws what the man did would indeed have counted as looking for child pornography, never mind it being mere lines drawn on paper...

This was a couple of years ago, so I don't remember exactly what it was, and Google may have improved the detection script since then. Complicating matters is that I was looking to see if anyone had drawn a praying mantis wearing a goth loli dress, though how "mantis" would trigger that connection is beyond me. Smile

Kinda disgusting how he got no mental help after prison. It's not like after you done your time you're free of your pedophilic desires.

The prison industry was just waiting for him to make another offence, just so they can go back and make more money.

I should point out that, barring a successful appeal, he will have to serve all 235 months to which he was sentenced. Virginia did away with parole a number of years back.
