I think it's encouraging that more and more anime about adult romances are being made, or at least being licensed for state-side streaming. I wasn't sure what to expect going into Emma, but by the end of volume 2 i was sobbing into my beard, spluttering "Why can't they just be happy?!"

Where are ... Saiunkoku Monogatari...?

Though she's working, Shūrei is only 16 when it starts, so I think that disqualifies it, even if she doesn't stay 16.

I considered that when I suggest Saiunkoku, but Shurrei is one of the most mature characters in the story, certainly more so than 19-yo Ryuki. Overall, pretty much everyone acts like an adult, even 13-yo Eigetsu. Most of the other main characters are over twenty, some considerably so.
