It was nice to see a list of recommended alternatives comprised of shows I actually like, though they don't offer what this one does.
Popotan has almost the same MAL score; considering the general trend that more recent titles receive higher scores, it could even be considered to be rated the same or higher: https://myanimelist.net/anime/610/Popotan https://myanimelist.net/anime/35712/Boku_no_Kanojo_ga_Majimesugiru_Sho-bitch_na_Ken It's nice to see that Shobitch ended up with three out of four featured reviews being positive, though while it was airing, the clear prevailing attitude from the common folk (jk) was that it was unfunny, boring, and worthless. It was especially amusing that the show was at the time exclusively available on Amazon's Anime Strike, considering their haughty boasting about being a "curated" anime streaming service: https://decider.com/2017/06/30/anime-strike-curation-interview/ (emphases added)
The reality, of course, was that they were putting up whatever simulcasts came their way via their deals with noitaminA, Animeism, and Sentai Filmworks. The latter scored them such gems as Made in Abyss, Land of the Lustrous, Princess Principal, and Girls' Last Tour, but also Shobitch. It seemed strange, because HiDive had already launched by that point, and was simulcasting a few low-appeal Sentai titles which one would assume Amazon had passed on. But they didn't pass on Shobitch. It may be too much of a stretch to credit Shobitch with aiding the fall of Anime Strike, but I would like to nonetheless.

meh, I'll probably never watch it again but I thought Shobitch was entertaining enough. Maybe I was just having too much of a Setokai Yakuindono withdrawal and needed any kind of innuendo humor... even if doesn't come close to the quality of jokes, character, and actual raunchy content in SYD (while barely having any actual visual fan-service)

I had to watch Shobitch recently. I remember I had read a little bit of the manga before the anime was announced and I seem to recall enjoying it... but the anime was a bit of a slog.
There were elements I liked. The subtle (and not so subtle) references to sex stuff, such as the porn pool, or the tree that looked like legs spread open, or the park being called ochin. I did admire how far it went in its sexual references. I also liked that there were some weird sort of non-sexual meme and other references, like kyubey, and the salt bae or whatever. There were times where I chuckled but trying to remember them is difficult. I think when they did the test of courage and the girls somehow hid in a bizarre manner and formed a horrendous creature... I also enjoyed the voice acting. Mostly the main dude's voice when he'd say no---n non non non. the random little replies like that were fun. also aoi yuki when she copies the dude on the train the OVA is bad. it's so cringe. I felt second hand embarassment. It felt like something a 12 year old just discovering sex would write. Hoo boy I could hardly stand watching it, felt like I was dying inside. I have very rarely felt that before when watching a show as for the dub, I hardly listened to it but I felt the main dudes voice was a bit weird. Not knocking the VA, I think he can probably do good tsukkomi comedy, but it sounds so old. |

I see Gundam Thunderbolt: Bandit Flower on the release list. Since there's no review on ANN right now, I'll just say it's a really enjoyable watch with some very memorable sequences. It's not as thematically cohesive as the December Sky film was before it, and not as well animated throughout, but it expands the cast and makes them more relatable/likable than the first film. It feels like some of the visceral power of the war-is-hell message from the first film seems to have been lost in the process or at least toned down; even the art feels a little softer and more traditional. (Part of me feels this Thunderbolt franchise would be stronger as a one-off with December Sky, despite some of the interesting things done in Bandit Flower.) It stretches believability, too, in terms of the technology for this time period in the U.C. Gundam timeline (0080), but it at least does some cool things if it's going to do so.
If you're a fan of Gundam 08th MS Team, Gundam 0083, Gundam 0080, or anime with a grittier late 80s/early 90s aesthetic, you'll be interested in checking this one out for sure. Despite the animated Gundam Thundebolt franchise's foibles--it can be a little too "cool," a little too detached/superfluous/truncated, and/or a little too stomach-turning/over-the-top at times--it's one of the more notable Gundam releases in recent years, in my opinion, for its attention to detail, more mature visual style, and presenting lesser-seen aspects of the Gundam universe. Visually, like December Sky before it, this 2017 anime is a throwback to the days of really high-quality OVA anime releases. But like those releases, it has some weaknesses that stem from the shorter format. |

I recall rave reviews of the original Thunderbolt from Woolie on the Super Best Friendcast when the first four-episode ONA series (which became December Sky) was coming out. He contrasted it favorably against the more widely watched Iron-Blooded Orphans, saying the issue of child soldiers was handled in a concise and preferable way in Thunderbolt.
At the time I was just starting 0079, and I didn't want Thunderbolt to overshadow it. I'm finally wrapping up Unicorn now, so I'll be able to watch it soon. |

Galko-chan is one of the few series that gave me post-completion depression.
I watched the Shobitch OVA after learning it was out via this article; it brought Galko-chan's balloon gag to mind with its reveal that Akiho's areolae are far too small.

I enjoyed the Shobitch manga. I didn't enjoy the anime as much as I thought I would.
I think what did it in for me is reading the manga what I was expecting from the anime was more along the lines of a series that hasn't been mentioned; Girls Bravo. I was expecting short bouts of sexual humor tied into a larger plot scheme for an episode. What the Shobitch anime delivered was instead these lifeless gag moments that didn't really culminate in the way I thought they would and lead pretty much nowhere. Akiho's character worked as did her mom but none of the others did it for me. |

Great shelves Errinundra. I confess I'm a tad envious at how neatly organised they are. All my stuff is either stuffed into plastic containers under my bed, or just dumped into drawers.
