I know I've seen a lot of positive feedback for him being cast as Spike but, honestly, am I in the wrong for not liking John Cho and thinking he looks way to old? I mean he looks his 47 years.

I am all for an Asian actor but I feel like they could of done better and not just gone with a recongized one.

Interesting casting, I just hope the series is trying to capture the spirit of the original anime, I just hope they don't try to make it dark and gritty like some Netflix shows like the Marvel ones, those shows work fine for the most part, but to me Cowboy Bebop had a good balance of comedy and drama, some episodes could get a bit silly while others were dead serious.

Not really feeling John Cho. Can he fight? I guess he can train... But the fun part of Spike is watching him kick ass. I still would've preferred Keanu Reeves.

Guy who plays Jet should be older in my opinion. Not too old. But someone who could pass as a 'father' kind of figure in contrast to Spike. Should've been Laurence Fishburne if they needed a black guy.

Faye I guess is okay... But this would've been the perfect time to give Rinko Kikuchi something to do.

I wonder who'll be Julia?

I guess I can deal with it. But the 'TV Drama' description is making me worried.

Like, we don't have the budget to do cool stuff and action sequences or space things so here's a lot of talky-talky drama shot reverse shot routine detective made-for-TV product, where most of the budget will be spent on the Church stained glass window scene for the finale.

But I knew there was no way they'd keep the entire cast Asian.

To be fair, Bebop didn't seem like the characters were all Asian to me (or at least it's not blatantly obvious if they are) so I wouldn't have expected it from this casting. Same with stuff like Fullmetal Alchemist or Attack on Titan. Now if they were adapting Naruto, Evangelion, Steins Gate, etc. that would be a different story.

The only characters in Bebop who you could charitably call asian were the Red Dragon Elders and Vicious.

Faye is canonly Singaporean, though.

I'm skeptical about the actor choices, but I'll give it a chance before I make up my mind.

I always thought Unsho Ishizuka was Japanese of no recent African ancestry.

I do believe said poster is referring to his dub voice actor Beau Billingslea.

Incidentally, Unshou was usually cast in black actors and characters

The casting looks spot-on for the characters, but it surprises me an Asian-American actor was cast for Spike given his last name. Also that a Latina was casted as Faye, whereas in the original anime it was implied she was Singaporean. Interesting.
There always was an implication that a whole lot of multicultural mixing had happened long ago in series, likely from planets being colonised by settlers of all sorts of different ethnicities. I'd have to give a rewatch before putting out any kind of evidence that backs his up, but I'm sure someone has already done something on the subject somewhere.
