Frankly,
He created the core of one of the better, more durable anime brands I've watched over the years. I can imagine there are anime fans in Japan just as shaken by this passing like there are people here any time a major figure from their childhood passes away. Of course, Lupin really isn't for kids  but he's aged better than Bond.
