Ya wouldn't believe how much religion triggers some people. Ya can almost do anything, but then put religion into the mix, and bam! that's what triggers them (not anything else before it)

I can agree with that. I have a childhood friend who got into anime even earlier than I did. He is totally OK with many of the more extreme things that appear often in anime: all manner of sexual imagery, extremely graphic violence--including when the perpetrators and/or victims are minors, foul/offensive language, alcohol/smoking/drugs, vigilante justice, racism, and so on. But the moment certain things which I shall call "religion-related triggers" appear then suddenly he's on a moral crusade against those things.

Genocyber, Evangelion, AD Police Files, Angel Cop, Attack on Titan, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, Gunslinger Girl, 3x3 Eyes, Made in Abyss, etc? Totally OK in his book. Cardcaptor Sakura, on the other hand? That's a big nope. No, not because of Rika's relationship with her teacher. It's because Sakura's card-activating magic incantation happens to involve the word "contract", which to him implies a contract with Satan. Likewise, "Ah My Goddess" is also right out simply because it uses the word "goddess", which offends his belief in a male creator...nevermind the fact that AMG does have a male being at the top of the pantheon who has no name or title other than "god". When religion comes into the picture logic and reason often go right out the door for many people.

IIRC, Inuyasha and Tactics both had scenes involving use of a six-pointed star. Both are set in fantasy versions of feudal Japan. And Japan also historically has had different attitudes toward religion than Western nations. Most Japanese people are jointly Shinto and Buddhist. From there, Abrahamic religions are seen as something extra. They'll observe Shinto and Buddhist religious rites while having weddings at Christian churches. If this were a Nazi swastika, yellow Star of David, or a certain cartoon frog, it'd be one thing. This is just a magic scene in a fantasy manga.

Maybe one or both shows might have used pentagrams instead. It's been a long time since I watched either.
