does this explain why my nearly 30 yr old brain can remember types/name of 800+ pokemon, but i cant remember some family members birthdays?

I'll pretend it's a (sort of) serious question and answer (sort of) seriously.

That effect is more about dopamine. Whether because you derived more stimulation from interacting with a game vs interacting with your family, or maybe because you never cared about birthdays, or some other reason, Pokemon just became more important to you, then that importance reinforced itself through habituation. You managed to stay alive, so I guess the darkness never took you.
