This is one of the few directors of anime that I know by name, and that is due to his poor reputation. I remember trying to get through Fractale, and it was a slog for me. Did start off well, but clearly not memorable, as I'm struggling to bring up specific positives/negatives from that one.

Though, looking at his bio on MAL, he did play a part in a number of anime that I am a fan of. Never knew everything that he had a hand in. Haruhi, Full Metal Panic, Kannagi (still want to see the manga licensed), and Kanon 06. So, thanks for the work on those.

I'm of the unpopular opinion that Yamakan is a well above average director, but while I've enjoyed most of his work, I think it's a shame that his terrible personality (and possibly some undiagnosed psychiatric disorder) kept getting in the way of his career.

I wonder if he'll pull a Miyazaki and return? But then again, I'm not sure if anyone in the industry will still want to work with him after all these disasters.

Good riddance.

I don't think at this point anyone cares. Here's repeatedly done mediocre to bad shows all the while insulting the fans of the genre, throwing multiple tantrums and asking for more money.

Just go away, shoo shoo

You're describing two-thirds of the creators in American comics and quite a few people in Hollywood, top of the list being Rian Johnson...

Honestly, a shame. Despite his personality issues, he's done a lot of good work in the industry.

Having had to look him up, I liked Fractale and the second season of Haruhi, (which I'm sure is divisive given Endless Eight) but he definitely doesn't seem to make much of an impression on the scene.

In the post, he said that he finally realized after 21 years of working in the industry that "from the beginning, I haven't been able to make anime."

Cool... I learned that from the first four episodes of Lucky Star but no one bothered to tell him that?

That's not the second season, that's the first season episodes of the second season as he was gone from Kyoto Animation at that point. And that's not "series director" who was Ishihara but rather "series production director" meaning "let's keep an eye on him".

Haruhi Suzumiya has been and always will be complex.

Aaaaaand once again he thinks he's not getting enough attention. For goodness' sake Yamakan, go have a warm bottle and take a nap.

I wish he'd stop saying he's quitting and just quit.

Doubtful. Miyazaki was skilled and liked.

I'm certain people told him, he just didn't listen.

"I've made women who've worked for me uncomfortable repeatedly, but I'm the *true* victim!"
I know he wasn't quite #MeToo'd out, but he's still an entitled jerk. Hope he learns empathy and appreciation in his next business.

This just might be the best Yutakan-related news article I have ever seen concerning those about him sounding/acting like a jerk.
